S1 – S3 BGE

In the lower school, pupils follow a Broad General Education in line with the principles of Curriculum for Excellence.

In S1, pupils will complete units in Graphics which are aimed at developing skills in presentation, through drawing board work (isometrics), sketching and through CAD. In Design and Manufacture they will focus on their practical skills, knowledge and understanding of tools, machines and materials and an IDL group activity.


 

In S2 pupils further develop their skills in drawing board work (orthographic), sketching, CAD, craft skills and in an IDL group task.


 

In S3 pupils receive 3 periods per week building upon their graphic and craft skills with emphasis on presentation and research and progression into creative design and folio work. Consolidation, differentiation and integration are important factors within the S1-S3 courses.


 

Pupils in Technical follow skills based courses in S1-3, developing confidence in using a variety of graphic techniques and different tools, materials and processes. Communication in all forms is vital to society and the means of passing on information graphically is an important and relevant skill. Communication in its various forms has an impact on society, education, industry, commerce and world-wide markets. This course is intended to create awareness in the use of graphics and the techniques used to enhance presentations. The structure of the course provides an opportunity to reflect on the use of graphics in industry and in business and to be aware of the ever increasing advances brought about by the continual advances in technology.
