Greenhill Maths Week
We Did It!!!
A huge congratulations to all the parents, pupils and staff that made Greenhill Maths Week such a huge success. We won!
Maths Week Scotland Competition Results
Dear colleagues:
Many thanks for all of your competition submissions and hard work before, during and after Maths Week Scotland!
The written overviews, photographs, videos, Twitter links and so on presented a clear and powerful indication of the fantastic, innovative variety of Maths activities taking place across North Lanarkshire Council during Maths Week Scotland (and of course beyond).
My colleagues and I faced a very difficult task in deciding which Primary and Secondary schools should win the £250 prize money to be spent on Maths & Numeracy resources.
However, it is my pleasure to announce that the winners of the North Lanarkshire Council Maths Week Scotland Competition 2017 are:
- Greenhill Primary School, Coatbridge &:
- Cardinal Newman High School, Bellshill.
~Activities at Greenhill Primary included the involvement of all pupils from P1 to P7 in some or all of the following: Enterprise activities, Captain Morgan’s Playground Treasure Hunt Challenge, Parents and Carers joining their children in Maths classes, Assemblies, Displays of pupils’ work and sharing the wide range of what was going on via the school Twitter feed.
~Cardinal Newman High took the opportunity to highlight the 40th Anniversary of the school by all departments taking a focus on Numeracy in general and the number 40 in particular. For example, pupils learned within the Music department about the number of ‘sales’ required to have a No. 1 hit in 1977 compared with 2017, in Science pupils learned about the properties of 40 grams of various chemical elements and compounds, whilst in Modern Studies pupils examined statistics relating to Health & Wellbeing over the last 40 years in Scotland.
Well done to our prize winners but, more importantly, to all staff and pupils across our schools who really embraced the challenge of Making Maths Count during Maths Week Scotland.
Kind regards,
Dominic.

Welcome Back from Mrs McB!
Welcome back to all our pupils and a great big hello to our very newest pupils in our Primary 1 classes. Already everyone is back into the swing of things and we are all looking forward to the completion of the newest addition to the playground- an outdoor classroom. We are very lucky to be able to share in this fabulous structure funded through Drumpark’s successful bid to Tesco earlier in the year. Can’t wait to see it being used for outdoor learning activities.
Let me know what your favourite bit of being back at school has been so far….I’m waiting….
See you all tomorrow.
