Literacy Week

Next week marks the beginning of Scottish Literacy Week.  Children will enjoy class lessons, workshops and activities based around famous books, authors, songs and characters.  On Friday the 1st of December, we invite the children and staff to do one of the following:

  • Dress up as your favourite book character.
  • Bring in your favourite story book.
  • Retell a favourite story.
  • Sing a well known Scottish song or recite a poem.

Children will also be issued with a HOMEWORK CHALLENGE (in bags on Monday) based on Literacy activities and we ask that you Tweet pictures of your child completing some of the tasks directly to class teachers or the main Greenhill page.  If you do not have Social Media, photographs can be brought into school.

Have a fantastic Literacy Week!

Children’s Rights March

WE ARE INVITING YOU TO JOIN US ON NOVEMBER 15TH FOR A

CHILDREN’S RIGHTS MARCH IN COATBRIDGE

Greenhill Primary and Drumpark Nursery and Primary are the only joint campus in Scotland who decided to do the RRSA (Rights Respecting Schools Award) journey as one, providing wonderful opportunities for inclusion and building stronger partnerships through a rights based approach.  We are now working towards becoming a Level 2 RRSA school.

Together, we have planned an exciting and innovative way to raise awareness of children’s rights in our own local community.  We decided to take part in UNICEF’s Outright campaign as a way of promoting and raising awareness of children’s rights in Coatbridge.

We are planning a public march on Wednesday, November 15th at 11:00am to 12:00pm(approx.).  Over 400 pupils, staff, key partners and parents will take the important message of children’s rights to the streets of Coatbridge.  We would greatly appreciate if you could join us.  This march has been approved by NLC public procession committee and will be assisted by the local police.

At this time, we are looking for parents to express their interest in attending this event and would also like to offer the opportunity for parents to become ‘stewards’- the ratio needed is one adult/steward per 10 children.  Look out for the form in school bags for more information on how to become involved in this event.
