The children have been enjoying finding out what life was like in the 1990’s. The have been researching significant people and important events of that decade. They had great fun finding out about clothes and fashion of the 90’s and designed their own outfits.
Wake me up before you go go!
P4/5 have been practising their 80s dancing!
Harvest Time in the Nursery!
The boys and girls in the nursery were very busy in the garden today. They harvested the potatoes and onions that they had planted in May. They worked really hard to dig them all out of the ground. We are all looking forward to making and enjoying some delicious soup and some mashed potatoes next week.
Our work is incredible!
Playground Games in the 70’s
Primary 5 enjoyed learning about playground games that were played in the 70’s today. They worked in groups outside and played peever or beds using chalk and a stone. We discussed different ways children used to draw the grids and in their groups they had fun deciding how they would like to play peever or beds.
P4/5 are going back to the 80s!
P4/5 are learning about the 80s as part of our Decades concert. We have been busy researching significant events from the 80s using our iPads and creating timelines. We have all chosen a significant event and this week for our taught writing will create a fact file on the event.
Do you know any significant events from the 1980s?!
P2 Active Spelling Fun!
P2 have been learning their new spelling words this week through active learning. These spelling activities could be used to practise words at home too!
Cashless Lunch System and Online Payments from 20 October 2015
A cashless lunch system was installed in our gym hall during the Summer holidays. We has just been informed that this cashless lunch system and also an online payments system, will be up and running from 20 October onwards.
Each pupil will be given a card that can be used to pay for breakfast club, healthy tuck shop snacks and lunches. This card needs to be credited with money before it can be used. Pupils can bring money in to add to their cards or parents can use an online payment system to add or top up money on their child’s card.
Parents can also use the online payment system to pay for all school costs including school transport donations and excursionssuch as Kilbowie, Parent Council Disco costs and non uniform day donations. More details will follow very soon!
P2’s Millennium Bugs
Primary 5 Spelling and Topic Homework
Week beginning 31st August 2015.
Spelling
Roald Dahl- spelling words have been glued into your jotters. Choose 5 words to use for rainbow spelling and the other five words to write in sentences.
Robert Burns, William Shakespeare and J.K. Rowling your spelling words are the ones with the phoneme ‘k’:
cashew, call, kidney, kilometre, keep, hammock, crackle, flock, chemist and echo.
All children should choose five spelling words for pyramid spelling and write the other five spelling words in a sentence.
Topic
As an ongoing task for the next four weeks, children should choose an area of the 1970’s to research and create a poster. For example, children could choose to research what fashion was like in the 1970’s. They can then present their information on a poster with pictures/drawings. Children have been learning ways we can research and find information and so can continue to develop these skills at home. Children can take notes in their homework jotter and use these to create a poster.
A homework letter and communication book will be given out to children soon.
Thank you,
Miss Gillespie
