Primary 5’s have been working hard at homework club! It is great to see the children support each other with their homework and to have some new faces after the holidays. We are also lucky to have Miss Riach join us for the next month to help. If any other P5’s would like to join please see Miss Gillespie.

Blubber Experiment
This afternoon P4/5 had great fun carrying out some science experiments. We were investigating the effects of animals in the Arctic and Antarctica having blubber. We learned what blubber is and how it keeps the animals warm in the freezing conditions.
We we used timers and thermometers to see how long we could keep our bare hands in ice cold water and then how long we could keep them in using blubber mitts!
We could keep our hands in the ice cold water much longer using the blubber mitts so our hypothesis was correct!
P4/5 multiplication madness!

Fairtrade Pancake Party
The P4/5 worked really hard this afternoon to make Fairtrade pancakes for themselves and P5. The theme of this year’s Fairtrade Fortnight is ‘sit down for breakfast, stand up for farmers’ so we used Fairtrade products to make some pancakes! We thought about how even before we finish our breakfast in the morning we could have depended on half the world already! Have a think about where your breakfast comes from – you will be amazed!
We then watched a Fairtrade video about the farmers and scoffed our pancakes! Well done P4/5!

Polar Landscapes
P4/5 created beautiful polar landscapes using chalk. We researched different landscapes from Antarctica and created our own ‘Antarctica moonrise’. We thought about the cold colours we would need to use and had a go at blending colours together to create some wonderful effects.
