Advanced Higher Design and Manufacture

This course will lead you on and develop your skills and knowledge of how products are manufactured and designed.

You will look into three units across the course:

  • product evolution
  • product analysis
  • product development

Evolution, you will look into how a product has changed and developed over the years from when it first came onto the market to what it is to date.  Examples could include bikes, watches, phones, etc..

You will also look into how technology and advances in factors are now changing products as well.

Product analysis is when you take a product of your choice and literally pull it apart to look into the parts and components and see how it has been manufactured, materials used, factors that have influenced the design.

Product development is looking at taking an existing products and looking at areas where it needs to be developed.  This is almost a mini version of your assignment.

Your course assessment is made up of 2 parts:

  • exam paper (80 marks)
  • assignment (120 marks)

This page will be update regularly when materials are created to aid you in each unit and also for the exam.
