Curriculum Information Session – 7th August 2017

Thank you to all parents and children who attended our Curriculum Drop in session today at nursery.  It was great to meet all our new parents and children again as well as welcoming back our returning families.  There was lots of conversations about what children will be learning and the different skills they will be developing in the new term at nursery. Parents also shared their thoughts and ideas on which family learning sessions they would like to take part in.  Some parents signed up to join our new parents committee which will begin September 2017.  It was also great to hear about the different skills our parents have and how they are happy to share them with us in the new term.

Thank you for all the very positive feedback on the session and we look forward to seeing you in the new term.

Toddler Room: Our Literacy Hut

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

The Toddler room children have been exploring the new resources in our outdoor literacy hut.  The children have been developing their mark making skills and they have also been reading and listening to stories.  The children have also been participating in role play as we added a till to create a cafe.  They have particularly enjoyed pretending to sell ice cream and taking on the roles of the shop keeper and the customers. Through this the children are developing their communication by having conversations with their friends and they are also learning to take turns and share our toys.

Outdoor Learning Garden Party…

What a fabulous day both children and staff had at the opening of our new Outdoor Learning Garden today.  Thanks again to David Caldwell for all his hard work building the fence free of charge. A big thank you also to all the parents who took part in the Big Garden Tidy, the garden looks beautiful.

The children had great fun exploring their new outdoor learning space,  they climbed trees, pretended to be chased by bears, hid in the “dark forest” as well as taking part in dancing games and group races along with their friends.  This new outdoor green space has offered children an environment for active open ended learning, exploration, investigation and creativity.

“There is a growing body of research that shows young children’s access to nature  is positively associated with improved self-esteem, physical health, development of language skills and disposition to learning”

Toddler Room: Bug Hotel and Amazonia visit

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Over the past few weeks the children in the toddler room have been showing an interest in minibeasts.  We have been reading stories about insects and finding out information on the IPad.  We have been looking for insects using bug catchers and magnifying glasses and built a bug hotel in our garden using a range of materials.  We also enjoyed a visit from Amazonia and had the opportunity to meet and hold a range of different animals.
