Aims
To enthuse and engage pupils about theatre and the performing arts exploring themes and issues.
To ensure pupils experience a wide range of opportunities in both drama and production skills enabling them to grow creatively and imaginatively in both devised and scripted work.


Curriculum For Excellence:

Broad General Education S1-S3

During your first three years in Firpark pupils will learn through a broad, general education. They will experience a wide range of topics some of which will be interdisciplinary and involve other subject areas.   Pupils will experience producing plays for performance which will include both acting skills and production skills.This broad general education provides an excellent foundation for you to move on to study for qualifications, at the right level for you, in the senior phase of secondary school.

Senior Phase

S4, S5 and S6

Drama provides opportunities for learners to develop creating and presenting skills. These courses focus on the development and use of a range of drama and production skills to create, rehearse and present drama. The courses are very practical and experiential. As learners develop practical skills, they will also develop knowledge and understanding of cultural and social influences on drama. Learners will consider cultural values, identities and ideological ideas which influence drama. Learners will analyse and evaluate how the use of self-expression, language, voice and movement can develop their ideas for drama. Learners will develop critical thinking skills as they investigate, develop and apply their practical skills.

 


Courses:

 

National 2  Performance Arts

Up to 4 units – developing performance skills, using performance skills, developing personal ideas, contributing to a performance

National 3 and 4 

2 units: acting skills, production skills in S4 and S5

Expressive Arts 

In conjunction with music and art  each pupil will follow their own bespoke national  certification pathway to produce a performance for an audience
