Fizz Buzz

We are really practising our times tables just now. We want to be super fast (please test us if you see us in the corridor or at home!!). We knew how to play buzz but today Mrs MacDonald made it harder by teaching us Fizz Buzz. So for every station of the 3 times table we said Fizz, for every station of the 5 times table we said Buzz and if it was in both we said Fizz Buzz. We made it harder by doing the 2 and 4 times tables! We had to concentrate hard and really listen! We noticed that when we did 2 and 4, there was never a buzz on its own!

Place Value

Last week we were practising our place value knowledge. We used place value arrow cards to show the difference between thousands, hundreds, tens and units. We know that a zero is really really important. It holds a space that has no value for example 5306…. If zero wasn’t there, the number would be 536 which is completely different! We also started talking about and looking at 5 digit numbers!

Mannequin Challenge

We decided we really wanted to do the #mannequinchallenge. Mrs MacDonald said we had to think of all the things we did in the classroom. We had to think of the different ways we learned. We thought of individual work and group work, jotter work, games, making presentations, writing on paper and using computers or iPads. It was lots of fun! We’ll do our best to get it uploaded!

Christingles

As part of RME we have been looking at Christingles. A Christingle is a symbolic object used in the Advent service of many Christian denominations. We had great fun working with a partner to make our own Christingles.

Creating price lists

We received a letter from Joe from super sports suite. We had to create a price list for at his reception in his gym. There had to be a goods side and a service side (goods means something you can buy and keep and services are like swimming and gym.) We had to think up reasonable prices for each thing. We had loads of fun making and decorating our price list for Joes shop. Here are a couple of finished ones….more photos to follow!

Instructions

We have been learning to read instructions. We now know instructions need time words, bossy verbs, short and clear sentences, headings, bullet points and sometimes illustrations.

Last week we followed instruction we wrote our own and then someone else followed them. The teacher told us where to start and were to go. There was three groups two of them were outside and the other group was inside. Mrs MacDonald took one of the groups, Mrs Hansen took another group and Mrs McCloone took the other we all did different instructions. One of the groups done classroom to junior picnic tables the other group done climbing frame to staffroom and the last group done classroom to senior picnic tables. It was so much fun we really enjoyed it.

Funny face biscuits

Yesterday we were making funny face biscuits. we were following instructions to decorate the
biscuit. so first we got the blue dye to put dots for the eyes next we got the white dye to draw the smile then the pink to do the hair. We added smarties for the eyes. Each group had he colours in a different order.

Balancing birds and spinners

Today we compared two sets of instructions then we got to follow them. We were looking to see if any important details had been missed from the instructions. We all managed to follow them correctly.

PE

In Pe p5 we have been learning about basketball. we are practising chess pass and bounce pass it has Been really fun to play. Before we start we warm up and play one or two games before we start doing basketball. Today we played port starboard and tig it was so fun and every body done well. We also got to play piggy in the middle with four people it was great fun.

Germs

In health, we have been learning about safe handling and storing of food. We wanted to learn how to avoid food poisoning. We did an experiment where we took three pieces of bread. The first one, Mrs MacDonald only handled with gloves on. This was our control bread. The second one, only Mrs MacDonald touched and only after she had washed her hands. The last one lots of us touched. We hadn’t washed our hands. The results were disgusting. We put them all in a zip lock bag and waited! Look at the results!!! We learned that germs cause bugs. It’s so important to wash your hands especially before touching food!
