Our Adventure on the Glasgow Tour Bus
Primary 5 have recently been on an adventure. We got on the local bus and made our way into Glasgow and then we jumped on a Glasgow Tour Bus. Here are some facts we learned while on the tour bus:
Anya: I learned that there are a lot of haunted places in Glasgow.
Charlie: I learned that witches were burned in Glasgow.
Jack: the tour bus told us all about the past in Glasgow.
Erin: we learned how statues were made and when they were built.
We came off the bus at Glasgow Green and went to The Peoples Palace and Winter Gardens for a look around and some lunch. Here are some of the things we learned at The Peoples Palace:
Lewis: I learned what it was like to live in the past. It looked a lot harder than today.
Julia: I learned that they had to do more work by hand.
Erin: I got see how people lived in the olden days.
Leah: we got to act out how they cleaned clothes.
Overall we had we had a great day and we were using our money skills from maths as well as planning the trip using timetables before we left. We are looking forward to the rest of our topic and writing our first E-Portfolio post next week about our trip!
Thank you for reading,
Primary 5 and Miss Peattie.
New Group Points
Two weeks ago we voted for group points in the classroom. We also voted an decided that the winning group would get a privilage. Some example are pillows on our seats, prize from the box, a small trophy or lining up first. The first winners were The Minions they chose pillows as their privilage. Here are photos of all of our groups and the new names we came up with.
Special Offers,
Time
We are starting to explore time in Maths. Today we done a quiz on time to see what we already know. Here are some facts we already know:
Emma: “There two types of clocks. One is called digital and the other is analogue.”
Anya: ” There are 60 minutes in an hour and 24 hours in a day.”
Cameron: ” There are 48 hours in two days.”
Jack: ” There 60 seconds in a minute.”
Heather: “You use bus timetables when you are getting the bus.”
Rudi: “You have a time you have to be back home at night.”
Cate: ” You use a watch or an alarm clock to get you to work on time.”
Julia: “You need to know the time if there is somewhere you have to be by a certain time.”
Dil: ” You can see the time on your digital watch, tv, phone, oven, buses, microwave and more.”
January Homework
Making Our Own Instructions
We have been using our knowledge of instructions to create a map for our partner.
Orla: We had to plan and carry out our instructions before sharing them.
Bethany L: We might need these skills when we’re older to use a map.
Rudi: I used precise words like left, right and said exactly how many steps to take.
Greg: We had to be very detailed with our instructions. I had to tell them to move diagonally.
Fraser: We had to know our left and right to move around.
Caroline: I thought it was good because we learned a lot.
Jack: It was fun because we got to learn new things.
Christmas Jumper Day
On Friday, Primary 5 hosted Christmas Jumper Day. We introduced our Christmas Jumper Day with an assembly. There was a catwalk jumper competition and a Frozen sing-a-long. We thought that the assembly went well and it was fun to sing with the school.
We each had a stall to participate in. There was a bake sale, a photo booth, Christmas Jumper competition, Guess Snowflakes birthday, arts and crafts and ICT games. They were very fun to work at.
We have been thinking about the skills we needed at each stall and here’s what we have came up with:
Lillie: We had to use our knowledge of money. We looked at how much people gave us and worked out the change.
Fraser: We needed computer skills. We had to set up the computers and find the website. We helped anyone that needed support.
Anya: We had to make sure there were enough cakes for everyone.
Jason: You need to be able to type fast.
Cameron: We had to know how much change to give back.
Katie: You had to give back the correct change.
Orla: We had to put a limit on how many cakes you were allowed.
Gabrielle: At the photo booth you had to use communication skills to talk to the boys and girls.
Christmas Party Time
Length
Today we are starting to explore length in Maths. We created mind maps of everything we know already about length. This is what we remeber from our previous learning:
Behtnay L: You measure roads.
Lillie: You can measure crocodiles.
Jason: You can measure the length of a marathon.
Charlie: You can measure how far the ball goes when you throw it.
Jack: You use it to measure walls.
Cameron: There is a length in a swimming pool. They might tell you to swim 2 lengths of the pool.
Cate: You can measure how long a car is.
Heather: You can measure a football pitch.
We all know that length is a measurement. We noticed that the area of a shape is length x breadth.
Length can be measured with decimals. We done a fist of five and we are confident that we will be able to work with decimals. We have been exploring decimals in class so we don’t think they should be a problem.
