Scottish Opera

On Friday we are performing Warriors, the Emperor’s Incredible Army to others. P5 s will be The Builders, P6 are the Soldiers and P7s are The Peasants. We will be performing alongside Scottish Opera singers. Roger came to work with us prior to the Easter holidays to improve our singing. We will be singing a variety of songs to tell the story about the emperor. The story is set in China 2000 years ago. Watch this space for further updates!

Shape

Today in class we started looking at the nets of shapes. It was quite confusing to look at the shape and decide what shape it would be from the sheet so we decided to create our own nets instead. This helped us see how it all fits together. We learned that a net turns into a 3D shape and we even remembered most of their names.

Indian Dancing

Primary 5 have been learning some Indian dancing for P.E. We have been recording our progress each week and assessing how we use our arms. On Wednesday we have a visit from P1/2 and we showed them some of our dance moves. We really enjoyed showing everyone our dance and we even got to teach them a little bit!

Primary 5 News

February Edition

We have been learning about line dancing and Bollywood dancing in P.E. We have been working on our hand movements. There is the lotus flower and the peacock. If your hands go above your head your wrists have to face the sky/heaven.

In taught writing we have been making instructions for a fairy tale character. It was because you got to choose your own. You have to include bossy language and steps in order.

The 19th February was Chinese New Year. We have been learning about this in class. We made poems, lanterns and did a lot of research. This year is the year of the horned animal. There is an argument whether it is the year of the goat, ram or sheep. In class we learned about the goat.

In maths we have been learning about time. We have been trying to work out time problems. We have been trying to get faster at out times tables using speedy tables and Big Maths.

Scottish Month

It is the end of our Scottish month in school and we have been working very hard to play our part. At the Scottish afternoon we sang ‘The Jeely Piece Song’ by Adam McNaughton and recited the poem ‘The Comin of the Wee Malkies’ by Stephen Mulrine. These songs were quite tricky at first because of the slang words. We went over them in school and got lots of help at home and now we can sing them perfectly!

Here are our thoughts on the Scottish Afternoon:

Emma: I thought the class was really good at The Coming of the Wee Malkies.

Jason: I liked the sassy movement we did at the end of our poem.

Anya: we realised we had missed a line in our poem but we remembered it on the day.

Cate: We all really enjoyed.

Fergus: I liked the Red Yo-Yo song P4/5 performed.

Cameron: I liked the Donald where’s your trousers song.

Bethany W: The whole school were talented singers.

Orla: I liked when the P7 girls performed a dance.

Our topic is Glasgow, this links in with our Scottish month. We learned that…

Charlie: Some parts of Glasgow are haunted.

Emma: In the olden days there were no electric things.

Jason: we learned that Gordon Ramsey, Gerard Butler, Alex Ferguson, Billy Connelly and Paolo Nutini were all born in Glasgow.

Gregor: we have been searching different times in Glasgow’s history.

Gabrielle: In WW2 there were bomb shelters all around Glasgow.

Rudi: Some of the factories in WW2 got bombed because they made planes.

Lewis: People from Glasgow took part in WW2.

Fergus: We researched and Created a ‘Weegie Dictonary’.
