Super Senses

This week we have been learning all about our sense of smell and taste!

We know that on our tongue we have tastebuds.

We know that it can taste 5 things savoury, salty, sweet, bitter and sour!

On Wednesday we did a taste test with a difference because we had to wear blindfolds! We were trying to guess how it tasted with only our taste buds!

Take a look at our faces!

Our Senses

Yesterday afternoon we were learning more about our Senses. We found out that the brain receives messages from parts of the body (eyes, hands, tongue, nose and ears) and makes senses of the messages. Nerves carry the messages around our body.

We had stations for each of Senses and we knew which sense to use by looking at the body part picture. img_3646 img_3647 img_3648 img_3649 img_3650

I liked looking at the sand with a magnifying glass – Zak

I liked hearing the music, the instrument sent a message to my brain – Rory

I liked the food tasting because my brain got a message from my tongue – Ruth & Zara

I liked the feeling station because some things were nice and soft – Jay

I liked the smelling station and the coffee smell was my favourite – Holly

Today Miss Kinloch and Mrs Mutch tried to trick our brains!!

Mrs Mutch showed us a tray with lots of things on it. We had to look at it for 10 seconds and then she covered it. She asked us to remember what was there. This was easy! But then she made it trickier she had taken some things away! We had to try and work out what was missing. It was fun!

Miss Kinloch had three cups, one hot, one cold and one room temperature. She asked for a volunteer and they had to hold the hot and the cold in different hands. They had to do this for 1 minute. Miss Kinloch checked to see if one hand was hot and the other was cold. Then they had to hold the room temperature cup, the hand that had been hot got cold and the hand that had been cold got hot! It was crazy! Our brain was confused because our nerves were sending mixed messages!

We really like our senses topic and we can’t wait to learn some more!

Golden Time fun

Today we had our first ever golden time and it was fantastically awesome!

We got to go to a station that we had picked on Monday. We had to be good all week so that we didn’t get a warning card and lose time off our Golden Time.

We had been so excited all day and we finally got Golden Time this afternoon!

We got to pick from Construction, Sand, Library, Painting and i-pads. We all had so much fun at our choices. Look at us having a great time during Golden Time…

Obstacle Courses

In gym this week we have been doing Obstacle Courses. They make it tricky for us to cross the hall. They make us do lots of different movements like, jump, over and under, balancing, running, zig zagging, and sliding.

On Tuesday we were the ones making the obstacle course because we were showing that we could be safe with the equipment. We worked in groups to pick our equipment and decide how to build the course.

We got to try all of the obstacle courses and we thought they were all great and easy! It was fantastic!

Our favourite parts were:

Jumping over – James & Lewis M

Zig Zagging in the cones – Kacey

Sliding – Callan

Under and Over – Zara

Common Word Catch

Today Miss Kinloch brought in her gold fish bowl. Inside the bowl there was some fish and they were special because they had our common words on them. BUT in our class we have some very naughty kittens and they were trying to take our common word fish!

The boys and girls shouted ‘Naughty Kittens!’ and we tried to make the kittens put them back. To do this the kittens showed us their words and we had to say what it was. If we got it right the kittens had to put the fish back.

It was fun – James

It was great – Zara

It was fantastic – Donald

Excellent – Zak

I didn’t like the Naughty Kittens – Roryimg_3534

We got to sort the pictures from the story from big to small, sorted the bears on the smart board to get them ready for a walk with the right size clothes on, we sorted what the bears needed by size and we sorted the compare bears into daddy bears, mummy bears and baby bears.

We thought it was fun!

Staying Safe

On Thursday we started learning something new in Health & Wellbeing. We started to learn about staying safe. Our friend Oscar asked us where we feel safe and we had lots of ideas like being with family or adults, in the school, in our bedrooms and in our houses. We learned that it is very important to be safe in school too especially in the gym hall. We made up some rules, here they are..

Here we are in the gym hall being safe!

Fantastic Rhyming

Yesterday we were Rhyming in P1b and we were AWESOME!!

The words we were rhyming with came from our story ‘The Three Little Pigs’. We had to think of words that sounded the same. Some of them were easy like ‘stick’ and ‘pot’ but some were very hard like ‘straw’ and ‘pig’. Thankfully Miss Kinloch had an ideas page in case we ran out of our own ideas. Take a look at the picture of our hard work…
