Percy the Park Keeper

This week we have been learning all about Percy the Park Keeper. He said he can help us with our new topic Living Things because he works in a park where there are animals and plants.

We have been exploring more about Living Things and Percy by doing some different stations.

Construction Area – We were using the construction to build a new home or Tree House for Percy’s animals.

Library Area – We used the puppets to act out what had happened in our Percy story ‘After the Storm’.

Writing Area – We were writing words about Percy and things he does in the park.

Creative Area – We were drawing our favourite part of the story using the pens and the pencils.

Imaginative Area – We have a Garden Centre! We have been pretending to look after the plants and been using our money skills to buy things at the Garden Centre.

Check us out enjoying our stations…

Our School Trip

Today Primary 1 went to the Riverside Museum and the Tallship.  We went on a very big, fast bus to get there.  We had to buckle up to stay safe.  We found out who our partner for the day was so that we could help to look after one another.  Then we found out which adult’s group we were going to be in.

At the transport museum we visited lots of old shops.  We went on the subway.  We saw a broken car because it had been in an accident.  We saw police cars and fire engines. We saw lots of different kinds of transport like bikes, trains, boats and cars.

On board the tallship we got to steer the captains wheel.  We were on the lookout for the 20 rats an 1 lazy cat. We scrubbed the decks.  We saw where the captain would have lived. We got to pretend to be pirates in the play area and we saw lots of pirate bunk beds.

We think our trip was fantastic and great.  We all had lots of fun.  Mrs Noble and Miss Kinloch thought that we were all really really good.  We showed the Riverside Museum and the Tallship how wonderful children from Chryston Primary can behave.

Outside Maths!

Today we were learning in a different way. We were learning about our subtraction in the playground because it was a beautiful day.

We were working in groups today. We had to work together to do lots of sums in the playground.  We had a list of subtraction sums, cones or bean bags, giant chalk and a hula hoop.

The first number in the sum tells you the number that you are starting with. The next person had to take away the next number in the sum.  The third person had to write the sum and their group had to help them to find the answer by counting what was left.  The last person had to remember to tidy up so that we were ready for the next sum.

Orlagh – It was fantastic.

Emily – It was wonderful.

Alfie – We had to make sure we were all working on the right one.

Abigail – It was nice.

Andrew – It was amazing drawing them.

Callan – It was epic running about to get the cones.

Zara – We had to collect the bean bags and I liked doing that.

Red Nose Day

Today is Red Nose Day!  Today is Comic Relief day.  We are raising money for charity.  We brought £1 each so that we could dress in red today.  Lots of us came to school with our red noses on and we all looked great!

This morning we made a red nose day biscuit.  Each biscuit had icing on them.  We decorated them with sweeties, marshmallows, sprinkles and lots of other things.  When we finished making our red nose day biscuits we got to eat them up.  They were brilliant and yummy!

We designed our own red noses.  This was a competition.  One of our committees is going to judge them and choose a winner who will get a prize.  Our designs were fantabulous!  We also did some writing in our daily writing jotters.

We even went on a red nose day adventure!  The whole of Primary 1 played the interactive red nose game.  Unfortunately the end of the story would not work for us so we will try to watch this another time.

We have all really enjoyed Red Nose Day!

What we know about Money so far

This week we have been learning about money. First of all Miss Kinloch had us tell her EVERYTHING we know about money! We knew lots of different things to do with money. We know money is used to buy things and if you take something without paying it would be stealing which is bad and wrong.

We thought about what we like to save up our money for. On a piggy bank sheet we drew what we wanted to buy (some of us wrote the words) and we designed our own Piggy Bank.

For the rest of the week we have been doing stations to explore the metal money called coins. There are 8 different coins and we know what they are and look like.We know 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p, 20p, 50p, £1 and £2.

At our stations we have been matching the coins in pairs and put them in the correct order. We have been counting out pennies to make an amount up to 10p. In our new Toy Shop we have been matching the coins to the correct price tag on the toys. We have doing coin rubbings. We have been unlocking padlocks that have coins on them and we had to use keys that had an amount on them to unlock the correct padlock. At one station we were being Bankers and we had to sort out all the jumbled up coins. We have also been busy drawing and colouring our own coins.

Check us out working so hard with our money…

Transport In Our Local Area

This week we have started our new topic which is all about travel and transport.  On Wednesday morning Primary 1a and Primary 1b went on a local area walk.  We were on the look out for all the different forms of transport that we could find.

We found cars, vans, lorries, bikes, taxi’s, buses and even spotted a plane in the sky.  We also spotted different things that help the traffic to know what to do.  We found out that these were called road signs and they do lots of different jobs.

To keep us safe when we were out near the road.  We held our partner’s hand and crossed at the traffic lights and zebra crossing.  We had a great morning and showed that we know how to stay safe near the road.

World Book Day!

WOW! It is World Book Day. Today is Thursday the 2nd of March and we are celebrating World Book Day in class.

We know World Book Day is important because we LOVE books. We like to read books, buy books and do tasks with our books. We know that reading books now will help us to read trickier books when we are older and World Book Day helps boys and girls to read. We have all been given a voucher for a £1 book. Please check our school bags/diaries.

In class we celebrated by having a big chat all about our favourite books. There were so many favourite books!! We told Miss Kinloch why it was our favourite and why someone else would like it. In our jotters we shared our favourite book and drew beautiful pictures from our books.

Here we are enjoying World Book Day!

House Points

Mrs Burke told us on Monday during assembly that we would be starting something new. We are all in a new ‘House’. There are four houses, they are called Iona, Skye, Arran and Mull.

Yesterday we found out our House. The House Captain’s came to visit our class. They shouted out our names and shook our hands and gave us a badge to represent our House.

We need to wear our badge to school every single day! Please remember to swap it before washing our jumpers! If you lose your badge you can get a new one at the office for 40p.

We know we can get House Points for…

doing your homework – Miss Kinloch!

If your house gets the most points in a week you get to have a special treat like maybe an extra playtime. The House that wins the most in the year they get their name on a special trophy!

The Days of the Week

This week we have been learning about the Very Hungry Caterpillar because we are learning all about the days of the week.

At this station we were sorting out what the caterpillar on each day. He ate lots of food and was still hungry.img_4135 img_4145

At this Station we were sorting the jigsaw to show the days of the week.We did this as part of a team. Only some groups managed it in time!
img_4136 img_4141

Here we are sorting the cards that had the days of the week  into the right order. Sunday could go at the beginning or the end.
img_4137img_4142

Next we had to put the story in the correct order. The book helped us to do this and some of the cards had the days but some did not.img_4138

At this station we had to practise writing the days of the week and there was pictures at the side of what the caterpillar ate. We could also use the little cubes to make the letters that are in the days of the week. img_4139 img_4140 img_4143

On Friday we did a special job for the caterpillar! We made him a diary that showed all the food that the caterpillar ate! We even counted how much he ate! On Saturday alone he ate 10 things!! What a greedy caterpillar!!!

Spelling Assessment

So today in literacy Miss Kinloch had us do a new task. Every Friday we will do a Spelling Assessment. There are five questions in the spelling assessment; our sounds, our 3 common words and a tricky sound word.

This week was a practise but from next week on if we get all 5 correct we get to move our names up and maybe even get a sticker!!

We would like to ask our adults at home for some help! Help us to practise by doing our homework, tricky common words and our sounds!

We know we are going to be epic at our Spelling Assessments.
