What we’ve learned this week!

Literacy

Over the past two days we’ve all got new reading books. We have really enjoyed reading our books. We follow the words along the line and sound out the words. We’re very good at using our robot arms to sound out and blend.

Maths

We have been adding numbers. We know the numbers get bigger when we add them together. We used number lines today. Some people needed a number line to 10 for their sums and some children did some really tricky sums all the way up to 20!

Today when telling the time on our analogue clocks we had the big hand at the 6! That means it is half past! We know that the little hand tells us the hour. Miss Kinloch says we are superstars at telling the time!

Our fantastic learning in Numeracy

We are sorry we have not posted in a while but since we have come back after the Winter break we have been so busy with our Numeracy!

Big Maths

In Big Maths we have been learning about learning about doubling our numbers. We can double 1, 2, 3 ,4 and 5. We have been learning to read 1 digit numbers. We played a game of hot potato and if you get caught with the hot potato you need to read the 1 digit number. (or 2 digit if you’re a clever cookie!)

Addition

We have been really impressing Miss Kinloch with our addition skills. Today we were doing the story of 3. We worked with a partner to find the 4 sums in the story of 3 and we know they all need to equal 3. We wrote the sums beautifully in our jotters. We know when we write sums in our jotter every number gets its own box. (box has our sound of the week in it – Josh)

Bookbug

Primary 1a, 1b and 1/2 have been learning about 3 books. Gorilla Loves Vanilla, Little Owls Egg and the 4th Bonniest Baby in Dundee.

Today we voted for the best book. I t was a hard decision because you could only pick one. We used a piece of paper to make our vote. We had to post it in our special Christmas Post box.

We have enjoyed…

Reading the books, getting to take the books home, dressing our teddies up, putting the animals in order in the queue, making ice creams in the role play corner, and pretending to be on the bus from the 4th bonniest baby.

Our winner is…

GORILLA LOVES VANILLA!

Zoo Lab

Today we also got another treat which was Zoo Lab.

We got to see some very cool animals.

We saw…

Raymond and Terry the Rats

Benjamin the Frog

Marvin the Turtle

Arthur the Cockroach

We did not get to hold them but we did get to look closely at them and learn some knew facts about them.

We had a great visit with Zoo Lab!

Children in Need

Today is a dress down day because it is Pudsy Bear Day or Children in Need.

We wore pudsy ears, pudsy bows and pudsy clothes.

We brought in £1 so we could wear our own clothes. The money is going to a charity that helps children.

We did some fun activities in the gym hall. We got to decorate cakes, colour in and go to the photobooth.

We had a great day for Children in Need!

Spooky Maths!

As it was Halloween on Tuesday Priamary 1b have been doing some spooky maths!

We did a trick or treating game where you had to say a rhyme, roll and dice and count out the sweeties.

We counted and made black spiders on webs using paint.

We coloured some shapes on a ghost and showed how many there were of each shape.

We did some counting of spooky pictures and wrote the number of how many there were.

We had to draw some spooky pictures by reading the number on a card.

It was super fun and super spooky!!

Autumn Maths

This week we have been doing some Autumn stations for our maths and numeracy.

We have been…

  • Making jigsaws by putting the numbers in the right order
  • Making the number 8 by using the leaves
  • Matching leaves and conkers to a number on a leaf
  • Counting pictures and using a peg to show the number
  • Rolling a dice and finding the number on the autumn mat
  • Making pairs with the autumn leaves cards

We have really enjoyed our Autumn Maths Stations. Ask us more about what we are doing in the pictures!!

Our New Topic

This week we started a new topic called ‘Ourselves and our Families’.

We did 5 stations to explore and learn more about our new topic.

Our stations were…

In the library we were pretending to be a mummy or daddy and read to our children or babies. – Adrian

At the writing area we had to draw our family and write who was there – Harrison

In the house we were pretending to be a family – Carys

At the creative area we used playdough to make our faces. – Sienna

We used mirrors to see ourselves – Scott

At construction we were building houses for a family – Josh

We are very excited to learn more about our new topic!

A very quick week!

This week has been a short week because of the September weekend.

We did a mini topic for another story. It is called Goldilocks and the 3 Bears.

We did lots of tasks for Goldilocks and the three bears.

In maths we…

  • cut and stick the things that each bear would need. – Josh
  • Dad got the big. Mum got the medium. Baby got the little things. – Adrian

In literacy we…

  • put the story in the right order. – Sam
  • there is a beginning a middle and an end. – Madison
  • sorted out a sentence from the story because it was muddled. – Sarah
  • pretended to be Goldilocks and we wrote about what we would do in the bear’s house. – Mylee

In our stations we…

  • used playdough to make different sized bear ears – Eilidh
  • used the smartboard to sort out the food for the bears by size – Harrison
  • put things in order from small to big – Sienna
  • sorted out mummy, daddy and baby bears bedrooms – Junior
