Measure

We have been learning about measuring. We measured length, weight and capacity. We have learned lots of different words to use when we are measuring. Some of them are: thin, long, tall, wide, narrow, thick, fat, short, size, heavy, light, full and empty. We have enjoyed lots of our activities.

Andrew – I enjoyed working with play-doh to make long and short worms.

Ryan – I liked putting the puffer fish in order of size.

Niamh – I liked to use the cubes to measure the length of lots of different things.

Rhys – I enjoyed measuring the window sill with the bricks and it was 97 blocks long.

Our Assembly!

This week we got ready for our assembly. We practiced doing our parts and singing our songs. We used pic collage on the iPads to make our invitations. We delivered our invitations to all the classes and all the teachers. We took home the invitations for Mums and dads to come to our assembly. We made our Alex hats to wear on the day.

We did our assembly today. All the teachers and the children came to see us. They thought we were really good. All the friends and family came to see us too. We had juice and biscuits at the end. It was super.

Deep Sea World

Today we went on an adventure to Deep Sea World.  We went on the bus and Alex the alien came with us. The first thing we did was go for our rock pools workshop with Lochlan.  There was lots of rubbish in the rock pool. We learned that rubbish can trap or hurt animals so we had to put it in the bin.  Then we introduced us to the starfish, the sea urchin and the sea anemone.  We were allowed to touch them if we wanted.

After that we went outside to see the seals getting fed. We learned some of their names.  There was Codi, Benji and 2 girl seals too.  Some of the seals splashed some of the people who were watching.

Once we had had our lunch we got to go an explore the aquarium.  We seen lots of different kinds of fish and then we went through the tunnel.  In the tunnel there was lots of lots of fish and sharks. The sharks were big.  We also seen some sting rays.

Rhys – I put Alex the alien on the escalator in the tunnel so that he could see all the sharks.

Conor – I liked the sharks because they had big teeth.

Eva – My favourite part was when we went into the tunnel.

Erin – I liked going to see the seals getting fed.

We had a fantastic time.  We didn’t just like our day we loved our day!

Alex the Alien Arrives

Alex the Alien arrived just before lunchtime today. Mrs. Noble noticed something green landing on the grass outside. We decided to go out and discover what it was. We saw an arrow showing us where Alex was. We followed the green glittery tracks up to the bench but we still couldn’t see him. He had crash landed on the roof of the blue benches outside. Mrs. Noble climbed up to get him and we took him inside.  We started to teach Alex all about the jungle and we even taught him a jungle song.

Erin – There was a green thing inside the spaceship and it looked like a parachute.

Ayva – It was fun, I liked when we spotted Alex.

Jason – His spaceship has two A letters on it for Alex the Alien. It also has dots around it.

Rebecca – He is cuddly.

We are all glad that Alex is finally here!

All About Time

We had the iPads and we went all around the school to take photographs of things that help us to tell the time. We learned about analogue and digital clocks. We have been learning when the big hand points to 12 it is o’clock and when the big hand is pointing to the 6 it is half past. We can also tell the time on digital clocks.

We played o’clock bingo and it was hard. We played a game with the little clocks. We had to make them say the right time. We really liked playing Whats the time Mr. Wolf on the iPads too.

During our time work we learned lots about time. At the start some of us thought it was a little tricky but now we find it really easy.

A Special Letter!

An alien posted us a letter today. The Alien’s name is Alex. On the envelope there were sparkly things and green footprints. The alien’s birthday was last month and he got a new space book and he wants to find out more about planet earth.

He asked if he could come to visit us and learn about all the different environments on planet Earth. We wrote a letter for Alex the Alien to tell him that he is allowed to come. We will find out about the jungle, the seaside, the dessert, snowy places and towns and cities as part of our topic to help teach Alex about the environments of Earth. We are all keeping an eye out for Alex and his spaceship.

Fundraiser

Yesterday was the school fundraiser.  There was a bouncy castle, basketball, hit the shuttle cocks into the buckets and a bake sale.  It was fantastic.  When we went into the bouncy castle it was hard for some of us to get through the first bit and it was quite tricky to get up the climbing wall.  We all thought the best bit was going down the slide at the end.

We want to say thank you to all the commitees that helped to organise this fun day.  We had a great time.

Fairtrade Day

Today is a Fairtrade day in Chryston Primary.  We have been learning all about fairtrade.  We learned that fairtrade is all about treating people fairly and equally.  Fairtrade means that people get a fair rice for what we buy.  It doesn’t matter if you are rich or poor.

We know that lots of things in our supermarkets are fairtrade products and we know that we have to look for the fairtrade symbol. Some of the things you can buy are bananas, chocolate, tea, coffee, rice, pineapple and lots more. These products come from all over the world like Africa and Asia.  This afternoon we got the fairtrade logo and we had to stick some coloured tissue paper on to make it the right the colour.  We are all going to look out for it.

We used some fairtrade chocolate to make shredded wheat nests.  We put some mini eggs in each nest.  We had to put them in the fridge to set. We are going to sell them at the bake sale tomorrow. They looked yummy!

Visiting Chryston Cafe

Today as part of our learning in numeracy and maths we went on a visit to Chryston Cafe to have a real experience of spending money. The school gave us each £1 to spend. We walked to the cafe in the afternoon and when we got there Christine had juice ready for us all.  She took groups of us on a tour of the cafe. We got to see the kitchen and got to go behind the counter. After that we all got to buy something and really enjoyed eating our goodies.  Some of us even came back with some change and we used our money learning to find out how much change we had altogether. We want to say thank you to Christine and the other ladies at Chryston Cafe for spoiling us.
