Transport In Our Local Area

This week we have started our new topic which is all about travel and transport.  On Wednesday morning Primary 1a and Primary 1b went on a local area walk.  We were on the look out for all the different forms of transport that we could find.

We found cars, vans, lorries, bikes, taxi’s, buses and even spotted a plane in the sky.  We also spotted different things that help the traffic to know what to do.  We found out that these were called road signs and they do lots of different jobs.

To keep us safe when we were out near the road.  We held our partner’s hand and crossed at the traffic lights and zebra crossing.  We had a great morning and showed that we know how to stay safe near the road.

Highland Games

This week all of the primary 1 children took part in the highland games. First we worked in the gym hall to compete in the shot put, the caber toss, the wellie toss and the farmer’s dash.  We worked in teams which we called clans.  There was clan Anderson, Bruce, Campbell and Douglas.  We made shields to show which clan we were part of.

After taking part in all of our events we went back to class for an athlete’s feast. We got to try Scottish cheddar and oatcakes, carrot cabers, shortbread and even had a little taste of Irn Bru.  Before we started eating and drinking we had a toast with our drinks and we all said cheers.

We think that we worked well in our teams by encouraging each other.  Our highland games was great, awesome and cool.

A Visit To The Co-Op

Today P1 and P1/2 went on a local walk to the co-op. We had to walk to get there. We had to walk past the park, the butchers and lots of people. We were going to the co-op to see our Halloween Artwork.

When we got there we had to look carefully to find them. P1 found their bats on the wall and P1/2 found their skeletons on the wall behind the till.

The manager came to speak to us. She said she is coming into the school with some prizes to give out. She has 3 prizes to give out for the artwork the school has done.

We enjoyed going to the co-op. We were happy to see our artwork and it was exciting.

Party Time!

Today was our goodbye party for Alex we have been busy using literacy, technology and science to get ready for it. We invited P1 to come along because they have been looking after Alex for us so that we could get ready.   It was good fun and we had some music, dancing and prizes.

Goodbye Alex hope you get home safe!

Static Balloon Investigation

We completed our last science investigation.  We learned that wool helps us to create static electricity in a balloon.  We managed to pick up pieces of paper using the balloon.  We were trying to find out if the bigger balloon or the smaller balloon would pick up the most paper.  We found out that the biggest balloon picked up the most paper.  Thats means that the biggest balloon had the most static electricity.

We had some fun to end our day and used static electricity to make our hair stand up on end.

Alex Is Heading Home!

This morning Alex was waiting on us with a letter to say that he will be getting in his spaceship to head back to Planet Zog on Friday. We will be sad to see him go but we have had great fun with him.

We have decided to throw him a goodbye party. For technology today we worked together to make some party hats for the party. We thought about what kind of hats we should make and what Alex might like. We worked in pairs to make sure our hats would fit our heads. We found thus tricky but we got there. We drew, coloured, cut and stuck to make our hats look amazing.

We hope Alex likes our hats!

Outdoor Day

As part of health week we had an outdoor learning day today.  We went outside with our partner to find lots of things in our garden to use for writing our outdoor number poems.  Our poems were amazing!

We went round to play at the stalls that were organised by the outdoor learning commitee group.  There was shoot the hoop, face painting, arts and crafts, victorian toys, a bake sale, guess the chickens birthday, guess the sweety jar and beat the goalie.

The next thing we did was go out and do some gardening.  We had to pull out all the weeds.  We used and gloves and trowels to help us.  Mrs Ross and Mrs McCloone were very busy helping us too.

In the afternoon we learned about plants.  We learned about the differeent parts of a plant and we drew and laeblled them.  We also went outside and drew our pown plants with P1 and we labelled them.

The last thing we did yesterday was have a picnic.  We enjoyed our water and fruit on the grass in the sunshine.

Health Week Begins

Today is the start of Chryston Primary’s health week. At assembly the health and JRSO committee talked about what was going to be happening. They showed us a video about bullying. The whole class had to work together to make a huge poster of hand prints. We had to think carefully about using our hands and we know they are not for hitting. P2 had to make a poster for anti-bullying and P1 had to draw around and colour in their own hand.

We have enjoyed our first day of health week.

Grouping

In maths at the moment we are learning all about grouping. We even know that there is a tricky word called multiplication. We know that when we multiply we make equal groups and then we put them all together to find the total.

We worked with hoola hoops and bean bags, the care bears, the dinosaurs, little people and cubes to make equal groups using the sorting rings.

P2 then moved on to work with number lines to make equal jumps to work out our totals. Our number lines went up to 100. We had some creatures to help us to do equal jumps. The frogs can jump up in 2s, the rabbits can jump up in 5s and the kangaroos can jump up in 10s. We don’t think multiplication is so hard after all.

Alex Learns About A New Environment

This week we have been learning about a new environment. We have been learning all about snowy places around the world. We went onto the iPads to find out lots of different information about this environment. We found out that some of the animals in Antarctica are huskies, whales, seals, fish, polar bears and penguins.

We watched a video about the people who live in these snowy lands. They are called eskimos or inuits. They have a very different life to us. We each wrote one fact that we learned from watching the video.

Caiden – The eskimos dogs pull the sledge.

Daniel – The eskimos trade things.

Klea – The eskimos eat fish.

Rhys – The eskimos eat raw food and only cook some things like the hard bread.

Andrew – They live in an igloo in the winter or tents in spring and summer.

Ayva – They carry their babies on their backs.

After we learned about our new environment we made eskimos. We used cupcake cases, cotton wool and crayons we think they turned out great!
