Living Things

Our topic at the moment is living things. Percy wanted us to learn how to look after living things.  He set us the challenge to plant some flowers and look after them.

On Thursday we learned what plants needed to grow and be healthy. They need water, light, air, soil and space.

Later in the afternoon we went outside to draw pictures of the living things we observed in our playground. We even went to see Primary 2’s butterflies being released.

Groups of 10 children at a time planted with Mrs Noble and Mrs Hansen. First we put soil into the pots using trowels.  Then we picked our flowers and put them in making sure there was space between them.  The last thing we had to do was cover the roots with more soil.  Mrs Noble said it was like tucking it in to bed.

Now we must remember to water our plants. We have decided that 4 children should water our plants each day.  We think it is fair if 2 children from each class get a turn each day.  We are going to look at them and see how well they are growing.  We will post some more photos when they get a bit bigger.
