This week we have started a new topic in Maths about Measurement.
We know there are 4 areas of measurement we will learn about capacity, weight, time and length.
This week we have been focusing on length.
We know some new words for length. Some of them are bigger, fat, long, wide, narrow, thin, biggest, smallest, longest, large, big, tall, huge, tiny and short. We have been using these new words all week!
We have been using non-standard units of measure and have tried things like paper clips, play-dough, bricks, and cubes.
We know 4 really important rules for using non-standard units of measurement for length. They are…
1.Don’t leave gaps!
2. They all need to be the same size!
3. They have to go in a straight line. NO ZIG ZAGS!!
4. You need to measure the whole thing!
Some of the stations we have enjoyed doing for length are…
Roxana & Jay – measuring with paper clips
Ava & Ruth – measuring the class chairs
Matthew – using the play-dough to make things long and short
Lewis W – measuring the animals
Lewis M & Holly- measuring with the building blocks
Check us out exploring our length stations…
