Nursery News/Sgoil-araich
In adhering to Scottish Government policy and legislation, we are providing 1140 hours of provision for our children.
New children and returning children are allocated a Keyworker who will oversee their written work, communicate with parents and work collaboratively with other agencies as and when required.
Within the nursery we plan and encourage the children to learn actively. Our nursery staff continually observe the children at play and decide when to intervene to extend/scaffold their learning. Staff use these observations when deciding on next steps in the learning process for your child.
All parents have access to their child’s observations of learning which are kept in individual Learning Jotters in their child’s tray. These are available at any time for parents and are sent home termly.
We also plan activities and work with small groups of children in specific aspects of learning. Learning experiences are delivered in contexts that are meaningful and of interest to the children and are as responsive as possible. The current themes and example of experiences are displayed in the nursery cloakroom and explained via monthly newsletters.
We continue to provide a nurturing, learning environment where children’s literacy, numeracy and health and wellbeing development is enhanced through a breadth of experiences inspired from the Curriculum for Excellence.
The Nursery Charter is created by our children and supports our drive to be a Rights Respecting School. Visual articles from the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child are shared and discussed with all children to support their understanding of how important they are. These rights are chosen by our children and embedded throughout our practice as reflected in our Nursery Charter.
Outdoor play can be enjoyed in our front playground where children build their gross motor and balance skills through riding bikes and scooters and playing traditional playground games. Children have lots of opportunities to access the outdoor gym equipment located in the school playground too.
The Nursery Garden provides a more natural habitat where children play in the mud kitchen, pirate ship, explore bugs and water play. Our polytunnel provides children with an understanding of food to fork and sustainability as they grow, nurture, and harvest their own food.
Our Curriculum Cabin houses an outdoor creative area which will has weatherproof books and rhymes, arts, and crafts materials. The cabin also provides some shelter during rainier seasons for our children to continue their outdoor learning experiences in comfort.
Parent/staff consultations generally take place during October/November, and then again during April/May. These meetings provide an opportunity for staff to discuss Shanarri targets (wellbeing indicators) to support continuity of care between Nursery and home and to support our aim to ‘get it right for every child’ (Scottish Government).
Condorrat Nurseries are North Lanarkshire Council’s first service centre which can award accreditation to parents who participate in Condorrat Peeps family group which provides opportunities for families to support their child’s learning. This recognised accreditation can contribute to further studies/professional learning for families.
