Condorrat Primary School

Dream, Believe, Achieve

Health & Wellbeing – Sports

Here at Condorrat Primary we pride ourselves on being the fittest, most active school in Scotland, celebrating sporting success at every opportunity possible!

We have a designated PE teacher who delivers a wide range of sports including: basketball, touch rugby, dance, netball, hockey, football, badminton and gymnastics (to name but a few). We are also the only primary school in Scotland who offers a High Interval Training programme called ‘GameFit’, which encourages our learners to maintain a good level of fitness and to embed fitness into their daily routine.

Our school also has a very active Sports Committee who are responsible for being the “pupil voice” within the school, sharing their thoughts and ideas about how we can make PE the best experience that it can be for all pupils. Recently, our Sports Committee organised and ran a fundraising event making and selling homemade lemonade. Funds raised were used to buy additional rugby balls. The event was an incredible success, where they raised £96! GREAT JOB SPORTS COMMITTEE. Thank you to everyone who supported the event.

We recognise every pupils’ sporting achievement (no matter how small) by showcasing our ‘Sports Star of the Session’ and our ‘Sports Hero of the Week’ names and faces on our display board, along with certificates and our special trophy. We also encourage our pupils to share their sporting achievements and participation in sport out with school by asking them to bring in a medal, photo, certificate etc to help them to talk about what they did. Another fabulous way to keep sport and exercise at the forefront of our school ethos. We share these achievements through our school’s Twitter page too! Why not check it out?

Our pupils are regularly invited to competitive and non-competitive sporting events such as: cross-country running, dance competitions, football games and more! Our recent success was where 12 of our pupils qualified to run in North Lanarkshire’s ‘Cross-Country Finals Event’ next month. This is a major sporting achievement as all schools in North Lanarkshire had the opportunity to compete in the initial stages, though only a few schools (including ours) have made it to the finals. GOOD LUCK RUNNERS!

We have been promoting girls’ football by providing a lunchtime football club to our girls in P5-7. We have 36 players who have taken part in hail, rain and windy conditions, without any fuss – well done girls! Our girls’ football club also had a visit from Laura McLaughlin (Captain of Kilmarnock’s ladies’ team) who participated in a Q&A session. This visit has inspired many of our young girls to continue to train and improve.

Some of our younger pupils will be experiencing an after-school club for the first time this term! The sport being offered is dance. We have a qualified dance teacher who will lead the session, ensuring that the pupils have fun whilst keeping fit!

Our Primary 7s will be participating in a week’s worth of activities at Strathclyde Park, however they need to be able to cycle proficiently. Here at Condorrat Primary we have created an exciting opportunity to teach our non-cyclists to learn how to ride and also for all four P7 pupils to train in a cycling programme called Bikeability. Good Luck P7!

This is a small snapshot of all of the sporting opportunities that we offer our pupils, though we do have some exciting news that will showcase EVERYTHING that we do relating to sport… SPORTS SCOTLAND AWARD GOLD STATUS!

Yes, we have already received a Silver award status, however we have gained enough kudos to go for Gold! This is extremely exciting as we could be the first primary school to gain such an award. Watch this space!

Check out our Clubs section to keep up to date with all of the clubs we offer in the school.
