Define Support for Learning

The overall goal of Support for Learning in Coltness High School is to help meet the needs of all pupils, thus allowing them to reach their potential in all areas of the curriculum.  Directed by the Education (Additional Support for Learning Scotland) Act (2010) we support pupils whose additional support needs affect their learning.

Additional support means provision which is additional to, or different from, the provision generally made for pupils of the same age.  The additional support a pupil requires may be long term or short term, depending on their need.  The additional support that a pupil receives aims to ensure that any barriers to learning are overcome.

All members of staff in Coltness High School are responsible for meeting the needs of pupils with additional support needs.  Curricular Departments and SfL staff work closely together to provide the best educational opportunities for all.

The Support for Learning Dept comes under the umbrella of Pupil Support, working together with Principal Teachers of Pupil Support, the Home School Partnership,  the Educational Pyschologist and other specialists as required.

The Support for Learning Dept aims to help all pupils in Coltness High to achieve their potential.
