We are very busy in April and May looking after our senior pupils who are sitting their National 5 and Higher exams. This year there is a record number of pupils who have support, several of whom are sitting exams in a digital format.
Good luck to all of our pupils! Make sure that you are preparing to do your best in each exam.
Remember that you can still contact your teachers during study leave for any help that you may require.
Also, all of our pupils from S2 onwards have decisions to make about what subjects they would like to study next year. We are here to help support our ASN pupils with these decisions. Please ask if you need advice.
The S3 ASDAN group 2015/16 were very busy again this year selling Easter chicks to raise funds for the Guide Dogs for the Blind, Chatelherault group.
Guide Gog Puppy Walkers Ann, Margaret and puppy Krista were presented with a cheque for £320.00. They raised the money by selling Crème Egg Easter knitted chicks to pupils and staff at the school. This has become an annual event for the ASDAN group and they have raised just under £1800.00 since 2013.
The Guide Dog Puppy Walkers and their pups visit our school on a regular basis and talk to classes about how they socialise the pups to prepare them for their formal training as Guide Dogs.
Celebrating Dyslexia Awareness Week 2015 at Coltness High. Our fabulous ‘Making Sense of Dyslexia’ display in the foyer to help raise awareness.
A massive thank you goes to Mr MacDonald of Technical for being the driving force with this. Also to the ASDAN classes and all in Support for Learning for their hard work with the project. Please take the time to have a good look at the board.
All staff have been wearing their blue ribbons to show support.
Huge thanks to @KennyLogan for retweeting our Dyslexia Awareness Week!!
The peer tutors all received dyslexia training on Monday 2nd November, period 7. The feedback from the peer tutors was very positive and they look forward to applying suggested strategies in class when working with pupils.

Making Sense of Dyslexia
The theme of this year’s Dyslexia Awareness Week is ‘Making Sense of Dyslexia’, be it at home, in the workplace, at school or somewhere else (Dyslexia Scotland)
A pilot group of Coltness pupils have completed a questionnaire looking at how best they can be supported. They will also be involved in a joint curricular exercise taking place between SfL and Technologies to create a “Dyslexia Friendly” noticeboard with the aim of raising awareness of dyslexia across the school.
If you require any further information about dyslexia support please contact any member of staff in the Dept.
On Monday 2nd November, the 3rd Year ASDAN groups will be visiting Greenhead Moss Community Nature Park. It will be a great opportunity to explore the woodlands and wetlands area on the edge of Cambusnethan with a Park Ranger. We will learn about the Country Code, the different wildlife and plants there as well as a few stories about the park’s history.
More information about Greenhead Moss can be found by clicking here
The pupils require suitable footwear for a good walk, a waterproof jacket and a snack. We intend to leave at 9.30 am and return at 12.00 pm.
This activity covers challenge 3A from the Sport & Leisure section of the ASDAN course.
