Overview

Coatbridge High School aims to be a school where children’s rights are at the forefront of our ethos, culture and values. Currently, we have been awarded the Unicef Rights Respecting School Bronze Award and are working towards the Silver award.

At Coatbridge High School we believe children have the right to:

  • Have good physical and mental health
  • Have protection from harm
  • Develop their talents and skills
  • Participate in the world to which they belong.

Unicef is the world’s leading organisation working for children and young people and their rights. Governments across the globe agreed that all children have the same rights by adopting the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). These rights are based on what a child needs to survive, grow and participate and fulfil their potential. They can be found here: https://www.unicef.org.uk/what-we-do/un-convention-child-rights/

The Unicef website states that they: “work with schools in the UK to create safe and inspiring places to learn, where children are respected, their talents are nurtured and they are able to thrive. Our Rights Respecting Schools Award embeds these values in daily school life and gives children the best chance to lead happy, healthy lives and to be responsible, active citizens.”
