School Meals
Arrangements for lunch are recorded, each morning, on entry into class. Children are then issued with coloured bands which indicate their choice for lunch. Children can choose from the following:-
- School dinner including pack-a-snack
- Home dinner
- Packed lunch
Those who pay for meals collect their lunch and then pay for it using their cashless card which can be topped up from home or at the school machine in the mornings.
Special Diets
Diets required as a result of a medical condition (a medically prescribed diet e.g. coelic disease, diabetes, food allergy or intolerance) can be provided in school. A medically prescribed diet form must be completed by the child’s Registered Dietician or General Practitioner. Procedures and forms can be accessed from the child’s school or dietician, or from North Lanarkshire’s Facility Support service.
Occasionally, parents/carers may be asked to supply prescription foods or attend a meeting to discuss the child’s dietary requirements.
Some children with additional support needs may require food to be adapted to an appropriate texture and consistency. In this instance the child’s Registered Dietician or Speech and Language Therapist will liaise with the Head Teacher and school Facility Support Service to ensure appropriate food provision.
Special diets required for ethical, religious or cultural reasons should be requested in writing to the Head Teacher, who will liaise with Facility Support Services.
Packed Lunches
Children taking packed lunches are accommodated in the dining hall and/or the school hall. For safety reasons parents are asked to ensure that the children do not carry glass containers or very hot liquids to school. Also, as a health promoting school we ask that no fizzy juice is brought as part of a packed lunch.
Pupils are supervised by the Support Staff and the Head Teacher.
All children staying for lunch must remain in the school ground during lunch break. It would be beneficial if children going home for lunch return to school as close to one o’clock as possible during the inclement weather.
As of January 2015, all P1-3 pupils are entitled to a free meal.
Children of parents receiving Income Support, Job Seekers Allowance (income based), Employment and Support Allowance (income related) are entitled to a meal without charge.
Information and application forms for free school meals may be obtained from schools, first Stop shops, and Municipal Buildings, Coatbridge.
Parents are entitled to receive a clothing grant if they are in receipt of any of the following benefits: Income Support, Job Seekers Allowance (income based). Employment & Support Allowance (Income related), universal credit, housing benefit, council tax rebate.
Only primary school children who receive a free school meal are entitled to free milk. Milk may, however, be available for purchase in the school, during the lunch period.
