Carol Concert

Well done to all the children who attended the Carol Concert. It was a lovely celebration for the whole community and really got everyone into the Christmas Spirit. What a lot of hard work but great to see all your efforts were appreciated by a very willing congregation.

Caldervale High School Visit

imageimageimageimageThe children visited Caldervale recently. During the visit they worked in groups with children from other Primary Schools. Their task was to work together, in their groups, to design a carrier for an egg. Their design had to ensure that the egg  would be secure and safe. To test this the egg was dropped from a height of 1 metre. If successful the egg would remain intact and not smash. The designs were fantastic and MANY groups succeeded in the task. Well done to everyone.

Some Of Our WW2 Homework Tasks

imageimageimageimageimageimageimageimage

The children worked extremely hard on their homework tasks. They made a model Winston Churchill and Anderson shelters from a variety of materials, and even baked cakes in the shape of a shelter. Many children baked using WW2 recipes. We were actually stuffed full on some days. The children also brought in some war memorabilia given to them by grandparents and friends of the family. I would like to thank all of the parents for encouraging the children and helping them with the tasks.

P.7b artist study – Georgia O’Keefe

IMG_1105 IMG_1107 IMG_1108 IMG_1110We are studying artist Georgia O’Keefe’s work in class. Georgia O’Keeffe was a 20th century American painter best known for her flower canvases and southwestern landscapes. She was born in 1887 and died in 1986. Some of Georgia’s popular works include Black Iris (1926) and Oriental Poppies (1928). Our study of World War 2 has provided us with the opportunity to draw and paint Poppies, the symbol of remembrance. We have visited the allotment to look at the poppies growing there. We have used pencil and shading to draw poppies and will soon be painting poppies using watercolours. When they are completed we will post some on our blog for you to see.

Shared Planning

Sharing planning sheet 7b

Please have a look at our Shared Planning this term. The children thought of activities they would like to do in relation to their World War 2 topic. They managed to think up activities for every area of the curriculum. As you can see there are lots of great ideas. We will try our hardest to cover as many as we possibly can in the time we have.
