It’s not often that we can say wet, dull weather is inspirational. However, Primary 6 have taken this dreich spell as a stimulus to produce some fabulous pieces of art and poems which refelct our thoughts and feelings about the weather.

We had a fabulous time at our Christmas Party on Friday 11th December. We shared our party with primary 5 and the children from primary 5 & 6 in St Aloysius. We all love to have a good dance and even enjoyed a chance to do the St Bernards’ Waltz and the Gay Gordons, which we are really good at!
After the party finished we came back upstairs for a quick snack and a drink.

Boys and girls, your challenge for this week is to choose 3 digits between 0-9 and create the 6 possible multiplication sums for them and mentally calculate the answer.
For example if I chose 3, 4 & 9 the possibilities are:
3 x 49 = 147 3 x 94 = 282
4 x 39= 156 4 x 93= 372
9 x 34 = 306 9x 43= 387

This term we have been focusing on tone and texture, we have used a variety of mediums to create this. We think we have made great progress.
Today we have enjoyed taking part in Children in Need. We made donations and dressed as we pleased or as Superheroes, we had our faces painted and we have completed Pudsey Mental Maths and 4 quadrant co-ordinates!!! They were really hard!! What a great day!
We have been working recently on reading coordinates. We are able to plot coordinates on an x and y axis and some of us are able to create our own patterns and list the coordinates for others to follow!
We have some fabulous pieces in our assessment folders to show off our talents to you, but here’s a wee taster for just now!
Some of us enjoyed it so much that we did some bonus Hallowe’en homework for extra house points.
We have completed our topic of Addition within our Numeracy work. At first we found mental strategies quite challenging but after lots of practice we have become quite confident. We have been very successful in adding 3 and 4 digit numbers mentally and with standard written notation. We enjoyed using the smartboard, whiteboards, games and textbooks to work on our skills. As you can see by our topic assessments we are very proud of what we have achieved.
Primary 6 have been very enthusiastic whilst learning athletics. We have worked on our running, jumping and throwing skills and in amongst that we managed some outdoor learning with our measure work! We were blessed with some really lovely Autumn days and managed to have outdoor PE lessons for a number of weeks. Due to injury at times we had pupils unable to take part and they became our photo finish officials and resident reporters. Look at some of their fabulous photos.
We had a fabulous time on Tuesday baking Fairtrade muffins. Our muffins were Blueberry and Fairtrade choc chip, with a spooky addition to decorate. We proved to be very good bakers and I am told that the muffins were delicious.
