Smell Test

In the last few weeks we have been learning about our senses. Today we did a smell test to see if we could recognise some common smells. We took turns to put on the blindfold and use our sense of smell. We worked well together and had a great time guessing what was in each tub.

Science

This year we are hoping to do lots of science. Our first science investigation was Chromotography where we looked at how colours were made. We learned that all colour are made from the 3 primary colours which are red, blue and yellow. Used the technique of Chromotography, we tried to split green, orange and purple. Green worked the best!!!!imageOur next investigation was tied to Health and Well Being. Our IDL topic, The Magic Porridge Pot has involved us looking at a healthy breakfast and other healthy foods and drinks. We have talked about how sugary drinks are acidic and can be bad for our teeth. Since we could not investigate the effects on own teeth, we had to find another way. Luckily Mrs Yeneka knows a vet who works with sea creatures and he was able to give us some shark’s teeth. Along with P2b we set up our shark’s teeth in 4 liquids selected by the children; orange juice, coke, milk and an energy drink. image image imageWatch this space to see what happens!!!!!!!!

Outdoor PE

We have been really lucky with the weather on our Outdoor PE slot (Tuesday) as the weather has been great and we have been on the Astra Turf exercising and playing games. If the  weather is not so great we will be using the Wii – during this time we join with Primary 2b – it is lots of fun. Monday is our indoor PE slot and all the children need indoor shoes for this as well as Tshirt/Polo shirt and shorts/joggy bottoms.

Sukkot

We started our first RME topic today which is Sukkot.  Jewish people celebrate this festival at this time of year and we started building our own Sukkahs.  Watch this space to see the final results.

Our topic projects

imageimageMiss Bryce is absolutely delighted with the efforts of the P2 children (and their parents) as they completed a homework project for their IDL topic. There were a selection of tasks to choose from and the children picked their favourite. Some researched fishy facts, others made lighthouses, we have lots of dioramas and even a healthy lunchbox – just like the one Mr Grinling had each day. P2 – did you enjoy this task? Leave a comment.

Science Investigation

Today we began our science investigation called Fresh Food. We have to investigate the length of time it takes food to go mouldy. As a class we decided to investigate different types of food and how long it remains fresh for. To make it a fair test, we made all the food bags they are stored in the same and have kept them all in light conditions. We each made a prediction about which food we think will grow mould first. We are now patiently awaiting the results………….
