One of our fabulous S2s (and there are a lot!) has made this lovely and informative booklet on France in her free time. We’re all so impressed! Well done Lily.

A few weeks ago Miss Muir’s S3 learned how to use a bilingual dictionary by looking up words for a song ‘Soulman’, by Ben l’Oncle Soul. Here’s a link to the YouTube video – it’s very good, and full of negatives (the grammar point we were covering at the time). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=69ptYXvUo7M
And here are some of the posters. We have so many great artists!
This year – for once – EDL was on a school day; Tuesday 26/9/23. So we were in step with the whole of Europe. Our BGE pupils were all busy doing EDL activities – S1 had a treasure hunt, S2 had a quiz and S3 were making posters of unusual idioms in foreign languages. We also had a food tasting of various items from European countries at lunchtime, and many pupils came and tried, among other things, camembert cheese , German sunflower bread, tortilla, pesto pasta and much else.
Mrs O’Neill held her, now famous, Bush Tucker Challenge, where brave volunteers were blindfolded and tried tastes of 5, rather more unusual, foods, like sauerkraut and olives, with a prize for not spitting any out. Lots of adventurous palates out there! Well done to everyone who took part; more photos to follow.
Our Higher pupils took part again in this year’s MsF – a combination of hard sums and a question in French/German/Spanish. The pupils enjoyed the competition and the snacks that went with it (for added brain power, of course!) and we sent off our answers. We’ll see how we got on once they’re marked, but the pupils were able to answer nearly all the questions, so fingers crossed!
Here are some photos and the question paper.

In October 2019, a group of 12 S6 pupils and 3 teachers went to Japan on a school trip funded by the Sasakawa Foundation. They had an amazing time, and were lucky to get there before Covid stopped all trips of that kind.
Charlotte Geekie was one of the pupils who went to Japan, and she is now studying art for some months in Kyoto as part of her University degree in Scotland. She has sent us some photos, below.
The Japanese Club takes place roughly on the first Monday of the month in Miss Muir’s room, S006, at 12.30 for lunchtime, and Fumi and Yushin, our Japanese friends from Glasgow, come to tell us about language and an aspect of Japanese culture. All are welcome to come along and see what it’s all about!
