Zoolab came to visit the Science Department on 30 November.
S1 and S2 pupils got an opportunity to learn about and handle someĀ of the different insects and animals, including an enormous milipede, snake, spider, and green tree frog.
The pupils (and staff) really enjoyed the experience although Aiden admitted that he was (understandably) a “bit nervous” aboutĀ the poisonous green frog and Evan was surprised that the snake was not slimy and in fact felt as “dry as sand”.
Rachel Blues, Amber Martin, Caitlyn Paxton, Adam Pugh and Declan Whitefield represented Calderhead High School at the Scottish final of the Tomorrow’s Engineers Robotics Challenge held at the Glasgow Science centre. They were set a number of tasks including presenting to engineers, designing and building a robot and a lego building challenge.
The highlight of the day was completing the robot challenge missions in front of an audience at the Big Bang Fair. Unfortunately, they did not win but put up a strong challenge in all the categories.
Dr Hughes, Miss O’Neill and Mr Jack enjoyed taking part in Ā Dykehead Primary school’s recent Fortnight of Science event where they taught pupils from P3-P7 how to make rockets, measure the effects of exercise on the body and make ice cream.Ā
Pupils at Calderhead High School have been working hardĀ building their Lego robots at lunchtime. TheyĀ now have functioning robots and are working on programming skills.
Pupils at Calderhead High SchoolĀ celebrated British Science week with the first year pupils taking part in a number of activities (including researching whether mints really cool down your mouth) and challenges (Dragons’ Den smart materials challenge) during Science classes recently.
