We have been informed that Network Rail will shortly start work to replace the bridge over the railway line at Shotts. Work to demolish and replace the bridge will take place from 3rd September 2016.
This means that there will be lane closures on Station Road from 3rd to 10th September and the road will be fully closed from 11th September 2016 to 15th August 2017. However, there will still be pedestrian access.
Network Rail are holding a community drop-in event at the Station Hotel in Shotts from Wednesday, 7th September from 4pm to 7pm if you have any questions. You can also get updates on twitter (https://twitter.com/shottslineelec).
Orienteering Club started again last week and a great adventure was had by all! Special mention to Mrs Cupples who made an impressive debut, winning second place.
S2 pupils Jordan, Ross & Jamie also participated in the Team Scotland selection race on Sunday and acquitted themselves well in the face of some serious competition. Well done, boys!
Pupils from S1 and S2 visited the Edinburgh International Book Festival today to see one of Scotland’s leading hip-hop bands, Stanley Odd.
As well as hearing ‘front man’ Dave Hook talk about how he uses poetic technique and structure in his lyrics, pupils also enjoyed hearing the band play some of their tracks.
Great inspiration for our Poetry Slam workshops next month…
Congratulations to Ewan Ferguson in S6 has been awarded a place on the Transitions 20/40 Dance programme at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
Ewan successfully attended two auditions before he was awarded a place and will now undertake training at the Royal Conservatoire every weekend.
Transitions 20/40 offers specialist training and mentoring to young people who are interested in pursuing a career in professional dance – they must demonstrate ability and potential, together with the necessary commitment and determination to study dance at a high level.
Congratulations to S6 pupil, Eilidh Crawford, on her recent golfing successes.
Eilidh won the The Stephen Gallacher Scratch Trophy at the East of Scotland Summer Meeting and went on to win the East of Scotland Girls’ Championship the next day!
As well as forming part of the Mid Lothian girls’ team who won the Cuthbertson Cup, she was also part of the team who won the Scratch Trophy at the Morison Millar event.
Eilidh has also been invited to play in a friendly with the East team against a Spanish international team.
Good luck to all our students who will be receiving their Scottish Qualification Award (SQA) results today (Tuesday, 9 August 2016).  Check out the Young Scot website for more information and tips on how to cope with exam results day.

We celebrated the success of our pupils on Wednesday,  22 June 2016, recognising their excellent academic progress and wider achievements. As well as all the well-deserved awards given to our pupils, the Provost Award was given to the whole community of Shotts for their support over the last few weeks.
Our guest speaker was Mr Alex Napier, and we enjoyed entertainment from many of our talented pupils.
Here’s just a few of the activities and achievements of our pupils this year:
Our first ever inter-house Sports Day took place on Thursday, 23rd June. There were some  exciting close run finals and in both the male and female 4 x 100m relay races the Calderhead pupils beat the staff teams by a distance!
Well done to everyone who took part, especially Lochhead House, who had the most winners!
Calderhead High School recently raised over £2400 for Great Ormond Street Hospital with a number of fun events including a staff and student talent show, a cake and candy stall and a raffle.
Well done to everyone who participated and a special thanks to Ewan in S6 and all the other S6 pupils who ran all the events!
