Calderhead High School is committed to developing our young workforce and finding positive destinations for all our pupils.
We are keen to encourage pupils to plan for their future and explore all opportunities and career paths, including higher education, further education, employment, apprenticeships, training or volunteering. We offer work experience placements, employer visits, visits to training providers, University and College campus visits, application form support, and community projects – including charity work.
Careers Adviser
During the school year, pupils will have the opportunity to meet with the school Careers Adviser, Sylvia Phee, at class talks, small group sessions, one-to-one interviews or at the Career Clinic on a Thursday lunch time.
Sylvia is available in the school library every Tuesday, Thursday and alternate Friday. If pupils require further careers advice then they can make an appointment with her direct or through pupil support.
A careers interview is a confidential one to one discussion which helps pupils develop career management skills and make well informed decisions about their career pathways in the future.
Drop in Career Clinic
This is held every Thursday during lunch break and offers all pupils the chance to have career-related questions answered.
Careers Library
There is an extensive careers section within the school library. Information is also posted on the large noticeboard at the bottom of the main staircase.
Careers Event
The school holds an annual careers event which gives both parents and pupils an opportunity to meet representatives from universities, colleges and a range of career options including local and national employers. This is usually held in January.
