2025

JUNE 2025

We are very proud of our pupils at Calderhead and we would like to feature the wider achievements outside of school of one or two pupils each month.

Myren is a highly dedicated and accomplished individual whose achievements span across sport, music, volunteering, and personal development.

A committed athlete, Myren swims competitively for the Fauldhouse Penguins as part of their national squad. She has earned medals at both regional and national levels, including standout performances at the Scottish Schools Swim Championships and the 2024 North Lanarkshire Schools Swim Championships, where she secured 1st place in the 200m Butterfly and 2nd in the 100m Butterfly. In addition to pool swimming, Myren also competes in open water swimming events at a high level.

Beyond her own training and competition, Myren gives back to her community by volunteering weekly with the Learn to Swim programme at her club, helping young children develop essential swimming skills.

Myren’s talents extend into the arts, having played the piano for over a decade. She enjoys playing and singing for fun, showcasing her creativity and love for music.

Her commitment to service is further demonstrated through her volunteer work with NHS Lanarkshire, where she supports the Care of the Elderly unit at Wishaw General Hospital. This role highlights her compassion and dedication to helping others.

Myren also participates annually in the St Andrew’s Hospice 6K, a charity event close to her heart following the loss of her grandfather to cancer. She has proudly placed in the event each year and took on the Ben Nevis Challenge in his memory, combining physical endurance with personal tribute.

Myren exemplifies the spirit of wider achievement through her excellence in sport, dedication to volunteering, artistic expression, and meaningful community involvement.

SEPTEMBER 2025

A huge round of applause to Lewis Fraser (S3), who continues to make outstanding progress at Shotts Karate Club (WKC), advancing from yellow to green belt durinlewis.pngg his grading!

This wasn’t just a belt change – it was a testament to Lewis’ unwavering commitment and hard work. He’s been training with focus and determination, mastering adult-level techniques with maturity well beyond his years. His progress reflects countless hours of practice, resilience, and a deep respect for the discipline of karate.

Lewis’s impact goes beyond his own journey. He has become a role model for younger students, leading by example with humility and encouragement. Whether it’s helping others with their skills or simply turning up with a positive attitude, Lewis embodies the spirit of the dojo.

His achievement is a proud moment for the club and our school. A reminder that with dedication and enthusiasm, great things are possible.

Keep pushing forward, Lewis. We’re all behind you!

Fundraising Football Match:

The S6 prom committee organised a staff v S5/6 pupils football fundraiser on Friday, 19th September. After a close first half, the staff managed to secure a 1-0 lead at half-time thanks to a Mr Russell goal, much to the delight of the S1 fans! The second half saw the pupils dominate possession and manage to equalise through Logan Grieve. The staff scored a penalty to take the lead before Andy (one of our janitors) fouled inside the box, with Kieran Morrison keeping composed to score. With the staff team tiring, some nice play ended with Rhys Armit scoring from close range to secure a 3-2 win. The game was played in great spirit, and the S1 spectators were a great source of support for the staff team. Thanks also go to the committee for their planning and organisation, which ensured the event was highly successful and enjoyed by both participants and spectators.
