Calderhead High School is committed to developing our young workforce and finding positive destinations for all our pupils.
We are keen to encourage pupils to plan for their future and explore all opportunities and career paths, including higher education, further education, employment, apprenticeships, training or volunteering. We offer work experience placements, employer visits, visits to training providers, University and College campus visits, application form support, and community projects – including charity work.
Mrs Crawford is the new PT DYW for Calderhead High School:
There have been a few things happening since the school returned in August, and more to come in September…
August –There are already young people from our S5 and S6 cohorts who have made the choice to embark on work placement commitments, and this choice will help them stand out from the others for whatever their post-school pathway might be, so well done to them.
If any other young people from S5/6 would like to take a chance and choose to carry out a bespoke work placement on a Friday afternoon, please send them along to speak to me in school, and I will support them on their journey.
Also, another group of young people enrolled for the NCL Motherwell Campus Independent Link Course and the school wishes them every success in their first step into the world of further education.
September –The image below provides information about an up-and-coming careers event from the NHS. If your young people aspire to a pathway in the NHS this will showcase all the career pathways the NHS has to offer
S4 Work placement update – the plan is for the whole S4 cohort to be offered the opportunity to go on a week-long work placement from the week beginning 12th Jan 2026. There will be an assembly and a letter sent home with more information next month. Please feel free to support your young people to begin looking for a placement NOW!
Careers Adviser
During the school year, pupils will have the opportunity to meet with the school Careers Adviser, Sylvia Phee, at class talks, small group sessions, one-to-one interviews or at the Career Clinic on a Thursday lunch time.
Sylvia is available every Tuesday, Thursday and alternate Friday. If pupils require further careers advice, then they can make an appointment with her directly or through pupil support.
A careers interview is a confidential one-to-one discussion which helps pupils develop career management skills and make well-informed decisions about their career pathways in the future.
Drop in Career Clinic
This is held every Thursday during lunch break and offers all pupils the chance to have career-related questions answered.
Recent events:Â
