National 5 P.E

National 5 Course Outline

Welcome to our National 5 Physical Education course!

The PE course consists of two components: Practical Performance (50%) and Portfolio (50%).

The practical element of the course revolves around assessment in two different activities. Each of these activities will be assessed out of 30 marks. The combined score of both these activities contribute to 50% of your overall award. Each activity will be assessed as a ‘one-off’ performance; how you perform on the day determines your overall result.

The theoretical element of the course consists of a 60-mark portfolio:

Section 1: Understanding the factors that impact on performance.

Section 2: Planning, developing and implementing approaches to enhance performance.

Section 3: Monitoring, recording, and evaluating performance development.

Pupils will complete this during class time, using the data they have gathered and through the personal development plan (training programme) that they will create. This will be completed over the course of the year which is collated and sent to SQA.
