What is PE in BGE Phase?

Our vision for Physical Education is for pupils to get as Active as possible and take pride in exercising. We also want pupils to Achieve by participating in Extra-Curricular activities and representing in school teams. Finally, we pride ourselves in pupils being able to Attain the best possible results throughout the pathway we have through BGE into Senior Phase. In short, we want to achieve the following for our pupils:

  1. Develop Mental, Emotional, Social and Physical skills that will be necessary throughout their entire life.
  2. Enhance enjoyment for Physical Activity and Sport through participation in a variety of activities.
  3. Contribute to the promotion of a healthy lifestyle.

Pupils will experience the following curriculum in S1 and S2. Two periods (Concept) are designed to allow pupils to develop a variety of skills which can be transferrable across the curriculum. One period is dedicated to a specific Activity, with the long-term aim to produce top quality performers capable of attaining high marks in National 5 & Higher PE.

S1 = 3 Periods per week. 2 x Concept, 1 x Activity.

S2 = 3 Periods per week. 2 x Concept, 1 x Activity.

S2 Pupils will also undertake the Young Leader Award.
