COP 27 & POP 22

P2/3 & P3/4 took part in an online POP 22 session. They watched clips from Frozen Planet II, which helped them learn about the importance of the frozen regions and why it is important to protect our ice, to help keep our animals and planet safe.

COP26

Here are some activities we have been doing across the school as part of our learning during COP26.

P6/7 have been learning about sustainability and climate action as part of their topic. We have learned about greenhouse gases, researched climate action and how we can reduce emissions. We used local produce to create a healthy snack and tasted seasonal produce to help us understand the impact the food we eat has on our carbon footprint. We created a joined up message from our class to the World Leaders which got sent to the First Minister https://youtu.be/h-7xUZMxZcc and used watercolours to create artwork showing the positive impact of action and the negative impact of inaction.

P1 focused on leading a sustainable life.  Here we are learning how to recycle household waste.

Mrs Bennett and her eco committee worked very hard last year to raise awareness of ongoing issues as well as support the campaign to “Keep Scotland Beautiful!”

Keep reading to find out about all the amazing things they achieved.

They developed the Bargeddie Primary Garden. Each class was able to take turns planting and nurturing the garden and it wasn’t long before some exciting wildlife came to investigate the new additions.

As part of a campaign to help the homeless, our p4/5 pupils painstakingly recycled, washed, dried and packed over 900 crisp packets, which were sent off to be made into sleeping bags. We think that’s a much better use for them, than being sent to a landfill.

Our Eco Committee also took part in a poster competition to promote the “Keep Scotland Beautiful” campaign. Have a look at some of our entries, aren’t they beautiful?

Finally, our Eco Committee encouraged our school to take part in the “Waste Free Lunch” week. They created amazing posters to raise awareness and awarded those pupils who truly tried to reduce their use of single use plastics. Well done everyone!

I wonder what they’ll do next!
