Slugs

Where they go

In Banton slugs like to go about in the Andrew Dow’s woods, playgrounds, roads, burns, grass, pretty much anywhere.

What is a slug?

A slug is an invertebrate that has no shell. Slugs belong to seven different families which in spite of looking similar, they’re not closely related. Not every slug share a common fore father (ancestor) and slug often means a lot of snails without shells for example, sea slugs and semi-slugs. Snail on the other hand is the common name for Gastropods with a Shell big enough for an animal to get its soft parts into.

Life cycle

They’re are three stages of a slugs lifecycle:

Egg laying, childish and adult. Even though slugs can reproduce by themselves it is quite uncommon. Slugs can spend the winter at any part of its life cycle.

Fun facts:

  • Slugs have blue blood!
  • Slugs poo from they’re head
  • Slugs can mate with themselves
  • Slugs are right handed
  • A slug is one big foot
  • They are not related to snails
  • Slugs have teeth
