Parent Council

Parent Councils came into force on 1 August 2007. In our school, the Constitution for the Parent Council states that there will be a minimum of four parent members and a maximum of six, members service for 2 years.  The parent members of the Council may co-opt up to three others to assist the Council in the carrying out of its functions.  The co-opted members may be school staff and/or community/business representatives.  The Head Teacher acts as the professional adviser to the Parent Council.
Parent Council’s rights and duties include:
(a) supporting the work of the school;
(b) Representing the views of the parents;
(c)   consulting with parents and reporting back to the Parent Forum on matters of interest
(d) promoting contact between the school, parents, pupils, providers of nursery education and the wider community;
(e) fundraising
(f) taking part in the selection of senior promoted staff;
(g) receiving reports from the head teacher and education authority;
(h) receiving an annual budget for administration, training and other expenses.
Members of Parents Councils, on a voluntary basis, may also have an advisory role in decisions on placing requests by parents in respect of those situations where the number of placing requests for a particular school or far a particular stage in a particular school exceeds the number of places available.
The Parent Council was established in January 2009, currently for the session 2022/23 the members are:

Any parent of a child at the school can volunteer to be a member of the Parent Council.  In the event that the number of volunteers exceeds the number of places set out in the constitution, members will be selected by ballot.  Anyone not successfully appointed via ballot/election may be offered the opportunity to be part of any subgroups set up by the Parent Council.
