What to Expect?
The HHB course is comprised of 3 core units and 1 assignment which is externally assessed by the SQA.
Each unit builds upon the foundations taught during the National 5 course and introduces exciting new concepts for a deeper understanding of how our body functions as a whole.
As with all Science, numeracy skills will be a key component throughout as you understand how to complete complex calculations and double labelled axis graphs.
What are the Units?
Each unit is made up of approximately 8 key areas and consists of individual tasks, independant research and core knowledge questions.
The names of each unit are as follows:
1. Human Cells
2. Physiology
3. Neurobiology and Immunology
Where can I get Resources?
Resources for the course will be provided digitally through your class team including all PowerPoints, videos, worksheets and access to interactive virtual classrooms which are tailored for learning at this level
Entry Requirements
Requirements for a place on the Higher course include passes in the following subjects at level C or above:
– National 5 Biology
– National 5 Maths
– National 5 English
Candidates who enter the Higher course with a pass at level C will require additional support to meet the demands of the course and should be encouraged to attend supported study sessions and ask for help where necessary.
Additional subjects which would be helpful but not necessary to take alongside the Higher include:
– National 5 Laboratory Science
– National 5 Health Sector
