Westfield Primary School

Vision & Values

Westfield Primary is a non-denominational, co-educational primary school covering stages Nursery to Primary Seven. Our key values are to support children to become compassionate, tolerant, confident and successful individuals who are able to achieve their full potential and contribute meaningfully to society.

Many varied activities are offered during the course of the school year. Pupils are able to take part in swimming events at local and area level, inter-school sporting events and sports training such as football, handball and volleyball. A variety of excursions with a curricular link are arranged for pupils throughout the year. The school has grassed and hard surface areas, a full size red ash football pitch, trim trail and traversing wall.

Close partnership with parents is actively encouraged to ensure that children benefit fully from the services on offer. This is done through contact afternoons and evenings twice per year, open evenings and workshops, as well as children’s work folios being sent home. In the summer term there is an induction programme for the Primary One intake and their parents. Parents are informed of important dates and events within the school by regular newsletters, Twitter and by email.

Prior to the pandemic, the school was pleased to have the regular support and commitment of a group of parents a who lend a hand with day-to-day activities. Once restrictions are lifted, any parent is welcome to help on a regular basis or as helper on a class outing. The experience proves to be valuable for pupils, parents and staff alike. There is an active Parent Council, which works hard to help the school with improvements and the fund raising committee is very successful in gaining resources and funding for school equipment and provides social events such as children’s discos on a regular basis.

Schools nowadays are seen more and more as an integral part of the communities they serve and close links are maintained between Westfield Primary and other partners such as the Police who give regular talks on road safety, drug awareness etc.  We are always pleased to offer placements to teachers in training, students and work experience pupils from local secondary schools.

Pupils normally transfer from primary to secondary between the ages of 11.5 and 12.5 so that they will have the opportunity to complete at least four years of secondary education. Pupils from Westfield Primary normally transfer to Greenfaulds High School in Cumbernauld.
