St Ignatius' PS

Literacy

1.    Ginger is missing his class mates so much!  He would love to hear what you have been up to during the spring break.  We know that we were limited in what we could do, but I am sure you were busy getting up to some exciting things.

Ginger has written a story about what he did during Easter break.

During the Easter break I made homemade pizza with my mum in the kitchen.  The pizza was delicious.  I had so much fun and enjoyed making it.

Ginger has remembered everything he needs to write a successful story! (Capital letters, full stops, common words. A – who, what, where, when and how.  Remember – Think, Say (over and over), Write, Check, Punctuate). Challenge yourself to write at least 3 sentences!  Maybe you could ask an adult to write a word mat with tricky words on it so you can write the story as independently as possible.  Remember an illustration too, with lots of detail!

2.     I will upload some spelling activities to the class material folder in the files area on our Teams page.  Choose an activity and practice your common words a few times.  Look, Cover, Write and Check each word.

3.    Choose a favourite book from your house.  Do a common word hunt and write the words down.  Read, Write and Draw your favourite page.  Use the class colour code to identify capital letters, full stops, common words and sound out words.

Maths/Numeracy

1.    We had started learning about money in class before school closure.  I have added a worksheet to the folder for this week – How much does the Ice Cream cost?  Add the coins together to make the total.

2.    Practice writing number words to 20 e.g. one, two, three etc.  Make a matching game using the numerals, number words and quantity on paper and cut them up, (11, eleven, picture of 11 items). Play the matching game with an adult.

3.     Go out for your daily walk/exercise – record the vehicles you see on your journey using tally marks.  Look out for cars, vans, emergency service vehicles, bikes.

From the data you collected answer these questions –

How many emergency vehicles did you see?

What was the most popular vehicle you recorded?

What is the difference between the amount of cars and bikes you recorded?

What was the least popular vehicle you recorded?

Health and Wellbeing
1.    I have uploaded an ebook in this week’s folder, called Lucy in lockdown.  I think we are all experiencing the same emotions as Lucy and it is good to talk about how we are feeling. We should know that is absolutely okay to feel the way we are feeling and it is normal to do so.

Read the story with an adult and talk about how Lucy has felt.  Have you experienced any of these emotions?

Complete the activity linked to the book.

2.    Get outdoors!  Create an obstacle course in the garden or in the street (adhering to social distancing rules).  Video yourself completing your obstacle course and post it on our Teams page!
