Primary 6 Update

Food Technology

Over the past few weeks we have been developing our skills in cookery. We used a variety of skills to make pizza, hummus and Victoria sponge. We worked as a team throughout all cookery sessions and the results were fantastic!

RE

As part of our Egyptian topic we researched the story of Moses. We listened to, watched and retold the story of Moses. We also helped create this wall display! Conner created the waves and we all made followers of Moses.

Our new RE topic is based on the Stations of the Cross. We are exploring artwork by Norman Adams. We worked with the Primary 6 pupils from Miss Quinn’s class to pick out symbols from the paintings. We have discussed what we think different shapes and colours might represent in these paintings. Next we are going to try to recreate them, adding our own personal twists!

Topic- Ancient Egyptians

We started our topic by looking at the geography of Egypt and the timeline of events which took place in Ancient Egypt.

Topic and literacy:

We have now completed many pieces of writing as part of our topic including reports on daily life, pyramid building, Egyptian dancing, and mummification. We developed our talking and listening skills by presenting our homework tasks which were based on Egyptian dress. We have written a letter to Mrs Hunter to persuade her to let us have an end of topic Egyptian celebration.

We also had a go at writing in hieroglyphics. Take a look at the photos below to see how well we did!

Technology

We  used team skills to build pyramids using different materials in technology. We used an online game to learn about how the Ancient Egyptian game of senet is played. We found it quite tricky!

Team Work

We worked as teams to research Egyptian Gods and Goddesses. We then created posters showing the God/Goddess and giving some details about each of them. These made a fantastic display in our classroom.

PE

We have been playing Egyptian themed games in PE including ‘Guide the Mummy to the Gold’. We have also been learning an Egyptian dance which we might perform at our celebration! Creating our dance has required good team skills and imagination when putting together moves and sequences.

Spanish

Our Spanish sessions with Maria are now finished. We have learned how to count to 31 and say the months of the year in Spanish. We also gained knowledge of Spanish festivals and many of us now want to visit some Spanish cities! We completed homework projects showing everything we learned from Maria.

World Book Day

We participated in World Book Day by dressing up as our favourite book character. We also produced newspaper articles with a colourful twist based on an event on our class novel Circus Mirandus. For this we used skills in listening, identifying main points and using language to suit a newspaper article.
