Home Learning for School Closure

To all of our Morningsiders,

Below you will find all of the information you need to get started with home learning whilst the schools are closed. This is just a starting point and I’m sure there will be many changes as time goes on. Although we are providing you with suggested learning activities, we in no way want you to feel under pressure to complete all of these tasks.

This is a difficult time for our parents/carers and children, and it is important to remember that we need to take care of our mental health and acknowledge that emotions will be high and everyone will need a bit of nurture. Take this opportunity to do the things you might struggle to fit in to ‘normal’ family life. Teach your children to tie shoelaces and ties, cook/bake together, go for walks/bike rides or do some arts and crafts. Make use of the vast amount of mindful activities that are available online and try to find some peace and distraction from the worries we are faced with.

JRSO Competition

The children have been asked by our Junior Road Safety Officers to take part in a competition.  They have (if they want) to write a poem, compose a song or a rap about the Green Cross Code.  All entries to be returned to their teachers by 25th February for judging before being sent to North Lanarlshire Road Safety for the final judging.

Confident Individual Assembly

This morning at the whole school assembly we congratulated those children who had been selected to be presented with certificates for being Confident Individuals.

We also had children from across the school showing any wider achievements that they had gained.

Mrs Gardiner told the children that she had been notified about the Road Safety Calendar Competition.  Unfortunately  none of our children won the competition, but out of 1900 entries from 82 schools we were lucky enough to have 2 children selected to receive Special Recognition Awards for their entries.  Well done girls.

Fairtrade

Mrs Gordon joined us this morning for part of assembly.  She came in to show us the certificate that has been awarded to Wishaw, following its renewal as a Fairtrade Town, which  was first awarded in 2004.  Here at MPS we are proud to be part of the steering group for Faitrade.  Thanks to Mrs Gordon for all her help  in this.

We also celebrated our Children’s wider achievements, this was across all classes this morning and not just one section of the school.

Morningside Primary are very proud of all our children and what they achieve both inside and outside school.  We would also like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very Happy New Year.
