Bellshill Academy Transition Dates – Primary 7

Tuesday 23rd May – Parents Night

Wednesday 24th May & Thursday 25th May – Visit to Bellshill Academy

Further details will be issued nearer the dates.

Breakfast Club

Our breakfast club runs from 8.30am – 8.55am.

Pupils wishing breakfast should arrive by 8.45am to allow sufficient time before class to eat the breakfast.

We recommend everyone has breakfast prior to school so they can arrive at class ready to learn.

The breakfast consists of cereal, milk and toast. This is free to pupils who are in Primary 1 to 5 and for pupils in Primary 6 & 7 who receive free school meals.

For all other pupils the cost is £1 per day with a sliding scale for families of two at £1.50 per day and families of three at £1.80 per day.

Energy Drinks

Reminder that only water should be provided for drinking in class. Pupils shouldn’t be drinking fizzy drinks, energy drinks or drinks high in sugar in school.  These are not permitted in school.

We are becoming increasingly aware of pupils purchasing energy/ high caffine drinks when going out for lunch.  This is having an impact on pupils ability to concentrate and take part in lessons in the afternoon.  We strongly advise you discourage your child from purchasing these and returning to school.

Playtime Snack

Please send your child to school with a small snack for morning interval.  Family sized packets of crisps and 3 or 4 sugary snacks aren’t appropriate.  We would always recommend a piece of fruit, a small low sugar snack or a small packet of crisp and a small drink.

Lollipops and other sweets like this aren’t permitted.

We have an increasing number of pupils looking for snack to be provided by us. Unfortunately we do not always have  a huge supply of this.

Should you be finding it difficult to provide snack due to increased financial pressure please let us know by contacting the school office. This will be treated in the strictest confidence.

HT Update 27.2.23

Industrial Action – Tuesday 28 February and Wednesday 1 March 2023

Industrial action waste

Further industrial action over the national pay offer has been announced by teacher unions, the Educational Institute of Scotland (EIS), the Scottish Secondary Teachers’ Association (SSTA) and the National Association of Schoolmasters Union of Women Teachers (NASUWT) on Tuesday 28 February and Wednesday 1 March 2023.

  • All primary, secondary and ASN schools will be closed to pupils.
  • Some of the term-time, school-based nursery classes will be closed to pupils.*

* Due to the Association of Headteachers and Deputes in Scotland (AHDS) withdrawing from participating in industrial action, the following term-time, school-based nursery classes will be open on Tuesday 28 February and Wednesday 1 March:

  • Alexander Peden
  • Cambusnethan
  • Corpus Christi
  • Mossend
  • Muirhouse
  • New Monkland
  • St Aidan’s (only 3-5 room)
  • St John Paul II
  • St Thomas
  • Tannochside
  • Tollbrae
  • Townhead
  • Westfield
  • Woodlands

Please note that this is a fluid situation and this page will be updated.

The 23 family learning centres and 23 full-time nurseries will remain open on both days.

The intended school closures may mean that you will need to consider additional childcare arrangements over these dates.

There will not be any school meal provision on site and school transport will not be running on the outlined dates of intended strike action on 28 February and 1 March.

Families in receipt of free school meals based on low income will be reimbursed through a direct payment to bank accounts or via Paypoint voucher to postal addresses which may take up to five working days.

This is a situation that may be subject to change and parents/carers will be informed at the first opportunity if there are further changes to the school day.

Social Media

Please ensure you are supervising and checking your child’s Social Media use regularly.  We are seeing an increasing amount of disagreements and fallouts in school which are stemming from pupil’s behaviour online.  How to use the Internet and Social Media responsibly will continue to be covered in classes but we need partnership from parents to reinforce this at home.

Should require more information, please visit the website below.  Parents Club – Online Safety

Many Social Media apps have age restrictions to keep children & young people safe.  Which does your child have access to?

Potential Industrial Action – 28th February & 1st March

NLC has been notified by some teaching unions of their intention to carry out industrial action on 28 February and 1 March 2023.

I wanted to get in touch with you directly as the impact of the industrial action may mean that you will need to consider additional childcare arrangements on these dates.

I will be in contact again  to clarify the impact on Lawmuir Primary School.
