Burns Supper 2024

Burns Supper 2024

Letter Issued to R7 & R9

Dear Parent/Carer
On Thursday 25th January 2024 your child’s class will be taking part in a Burn’s Supper. The primary 7 children in rooms 7 and 9 will be involved in planning and running the event by learning poetry, making speeches and decorating the hall.

We would like to invite you to join the children at their Burn’s Supper. The event will start at 1.45pm and will finish by 3pm. During the afternoon everyone will have the opportunity to taste ‘haggis, neeps and tatties’, drink some Irn Bru and the children will perform some Scottish poems and songs and make the traditional speeches.

The cost of this event will be £4 for adults. There will be no charge for the children as the school will cover the cost of the children’s meal.

If you would like to attend the Burn’s Supper please complete the form below and return it to the school, along with £4 per adult, by Friday 19th January 2024.

We really hope that you will be able to join the children at, what is probably their first ever Burn’s Supper.

Feel free to wear something tartan!

If you have any questions regarding this matter please do not hesitate to contact the school.

Morgan Sindall Safety Assembly

Today we were visited by representatives from Morgan Sindall, who came to talk to us about Health & Safety in and around Building Sites. Ivor Goodsite was also in school to meet the pupils and share the safety message.

Many Thanks to Morgan Sindall for visiting with such an important message.

The slides from today’s talk are attached in case you want to re-visit these with your children at home.

Changes to Infant Playground

Changes to Infant Playground & Breaks/Lunch – Effective Monday 4th December

As you will have seen from the Orbiston Community Hub Newsletter issued last week, construction on the new site will begin from Monday 4th December.

This means a few changes for us in school, mainly impacting on the space we have to use in the Infant playground. The contractors will be extending the existing fencing from where it ends now down to the exterior school fence. (Please see diagram).

Arriving at School

This means that pupils (P1-3) who normally enter through the yellow infant gate and play in the infant playground will not have space to play in the morning.

Pupils can continue to enter school grounds through the yellow gate but instead of playing in the infant playground, they should come straight into the school building where they will be supervised until the start of the school day.  As usual, there will be support staff at the gate (from 8.45am) to help guide pupils to the correct place. Please bring your child to school no earlier than 8.45am unless going to breakfast club

Playtimes

Due to there being no space in the infant playground, pupils in P1-3 will play in the senior playground at their break. From Monday 4th December, the playtimes and lunchtimes for all pupils will be as follows.

1st Break 10.30am – 10.45am 2nd Break 10.50am – 11.05am
R1, R2, R5, R6, R17, R7, R9 R10, R11, R12, R13
1st Lunch Break 12noon – 12.45pm 1st Lunch Break 12.45pm – 1.30pm
R1, R2, R5, R6, R17, R7, R9 R10, R11, R12, R13

Leaving School at 3pm

Pupils will still be dismissed at 3pm via the infant playground.  P2 & 3 (R5, R6 & R17) will be dismissed as normal and should exit via the infant gate. P1 pupils in R1 & R2 will exit via R1 fire door. Parents should wait to collect pupils in the area shown (Orange Square) and leave via the yellow gate.

I would like to take this opportunity to remind you, should you need to speak to your child’s class teacher, please do not approach them while they are trying to safely dismiss pupils. Instead please phone the school office, where they will arrange a short meeting or phone call.  Reminder dogs are also not allowed in the school grounds.
