ZooLab visit to Primary 4

ZooLab paid a visit to Primary 4 on Monday 11th May.  Anthony brought some weird and wonderful creatures with him.  The children were able to hold and touch a corn snake, a giant cockroach, an African snail and a giant millipede.  They also saw a tarantula, a scorpion and a tree frog.  Anthony told the children some interesting facts about each creature and explained how animals are classified into groups such as molluscs, vertebrates, arachnids, etc.

The children were able to answer lots of Anthony's questions :)

Eco Garden

The children across the whole school are working in the Eco Garden and using it as a place for outdoor learning. Each class have been assigned their very own flower bed to take care of. The children in Primary 3/4 have visited the garden for an art activity and the have also planted some flowers. The flowers will stay in their class room, where the children can look after them and water them until the warmer weather. Then they will transfer the flowers from their pots into a flower bed in the garden.

Visit from Guide Dogs for the Blind – P4

Primary 4 have been finding out about the Five Senses.  They had a visit from Guide Dogs for the Blind.  The puppy trainers told the class all about how the dogs are trained and about the difficulties faced by blind people.  Nesta and Isla were as good as gold and all the children were able to clap and pet the dogs.

Ann and Isla demonstrated some of the skills required by a guide dog.

Primary 3/4 School Trip to Stirling Castle

Primary 3/4 have been learning all about castles and were able to visit Stirling Castle to learn more. This was the perfect opportunity to combine both the castle and the circus themes that they have explored this year. The first part of the day was set by the children as they led the way around the castle exploring the grounds and getting involved in some interactive learning.  After lunch, they had a guided tour by their very own court jester who also taught them some circus skills.

Eco Garden Update

Now that the sunny weather is here we have been busy tidying up the Community Garden in Easter Road.  Lots of weeds have been removed.  The bulbs which were planted at the end of last year have produced a lovely display.

Keeping Safe

The infant department are learning about keeping safe at home and in the community. Primary 2 were creating circuits and using batteries to light a bulb as part of learning about electricity. We were learning what to do if we had an accident and in the role play area we got the chance to use our first aid kit! In the construction area we built bridges to allow pedestrians to cross safely over railway lines safely.

Science Centre Visit

Primary 2 and 3 had a fantastic day out at Glasgow Science Centre before Spring break. We had lots of fun trying out all of the experiments! The highlight of the day was a visit to the planetarium where we got to see lots of star constellations. This was a great end to an exciting Space theme!DSCF0002 DSCF0016 DSCF0018 DSCF0022 1
