The staff and children would like to wish Mrs Bradley and Mrs Sinclair all the best in the future. They will both be really missed.
Eco Garden
Some of the staff did some weeding in the garden during the summer holidays. They also picked strawberries and dug up some potatoes. There should be lots of potatoes, leeks and onions ready to be harvested by the time the children return to school.
Butterflies
Primary 4 have released their butterflies into the wild after watching them change from caterpillars to chrysalises to butterflies. They flew off happily on a glorious sunny day 🙂
Sports Day at Dykehead
The sun shone and the parents turned out in their droves for Sports Day at Dykehead Primary. The pupils in Primary 4 and Primary 3/4 had a fantastic time and were very competitive. Well done to everyone who took part.
Author Visit
The pupils from Primary 1 – Primary 4 enjoyed a visit from authors McNicol and Jackson. Badger, the Mystical Mutt, also put in an appearance, much to the excitement of the children. Many of the pupils are now the proud owners of signed copies of the Badger books.
Parrots!
Primary 4 had great fun making parrots with Miss Kennedy, although most children thought they looked more like Angry Birds than parrots!!
Bug Boxes
We now have two bug boxes for our Eco Garden. We hope they will attract lots of insects and bees.
P6 trip to Scotland Street School
On the 4th June, Primary 6 visited Scotland Street School for a lesson with a ‘Victorian’ teacher to help us in understanding our Victorians theme. We were all pretty scared of her, even those who said they weren’t! (The faces say it all!) Everyone was surprised at how strict she was. We had to sit in rows with our backs against the chair and arms folded. If we were asked to answer a question, we had to stand and say, “Ma’am”. If we forgot, she was very angry with us. She asked us some really difficult sums and we got a chance to copy Victorian handwriting from the board. We used slates and pencils, as well as fountain pens and ink. We weren’t allowed to make a mess with the ink and had to use blotting paper to mop up extra ink from our page.
She showed us the belt and hit it on the table in front of us! It made a huge noise and we were all nervous that she might need to use it! Thankfully, we behaved so well that she didn’t need to. We’re really glad that children are protected now from being hurt and our teachers don’t treat us like that!
At the end of the lesson, the teacher came out of character and showed us she was actually really nice. She asked for volunteers to wear the dunce hat and we all laughed when Abi had a shot.
We were all very glad to get back to 2015 and think our school and teachers are much better than what the Victorians had!

Primary 3/4 visit P4!
Primary 3/4 visited Primary 4 to tell them all about their trip to Stirling Castle. The P3/4’s enjoyed sharing their experiences and the P4’s were attentive listeners.
