Creative Dance at Thornlie Primary

The children of Thornlie Primary welcomed the wonderful Rosina Bonsu for two days of creative dance workshops. All of the children participated in dance workshops and Primary 3 and Primary 5/6 worked closely with Rosina to choreograph a dance to raise awareness of Fairtrade. The dance was put together with drama and music and was performed for the whole school at our Fairtrade assembly.

Dance in Scotland Report launched

Dance in Scotland Report launched

A new report aiming to raise the profile of Dance in Scotland was launched recently by Fiona Hyslop, Cabinet Secretary for Culture and External Affairs and Andrew Dixon Chief Executive, Creative Scotland. It recommends changes and developments which will strengthen and reinforce the place of dance in our society. The four key messages of the report are:

Everyone in Scotland should have access to a local dance activity.
Investment in professional dance needs to be sustained in order to build new audiences.
All children should have access to high quality dance teaching in schools.
More opportunities for specialist training and professional development are needed.
The report has been developed by the Federation of Scottish Theatre in consultation with Scotland’s dance and education communities. Visit the Creative Scotland website for more news on the report or the Federation of Scottish Theatre website to view the report in full.

CPD in Dance for Primary and Secondary Teachers

CPD in Dance for Primary and Secondary Teachers

Scottish Youth Dance is running a series of training days for teachers in 2012. NPA Training days (Jan – Sep) on choreography, jazz and contemporary dance will help secondary teachers develop skills and knowledge to deliver the SQA National Progression Award in Dance – a qualification aimed at S3/4 pupils. Let’s Get Olympic, on 24 January, gives primary teachers skills to inspire pupils and explore the Olympic theme through dance. For more information and how to book, please see the flyers attached.
