Outdoor learning

This afternoon we were doing some of our learning outside.

We made table squares using chalk and some of us managed to make them up to the 12 x table. Before that we enjoyed reading our library books whilst we sat at the picnic tables. Some of us preferred to lie in the shade whilst reading our books.

Let’s hope the rain stays away for a while yet!

2D Shape

We are learning about 2D shape this term with Mrs McIntyre. We have been tiling with squares, triangles, hexagons and rectangles.

Here is a link to some tiling online – Tiling

Here is a link to an some art work we looked at to inspire our Art work – Escher’s art

For next week, Mrs McIntyre has put a wordbank of shapes on the Maths wall – we have to see how many of them we can name. The shapes are – quadrilateral, rhombus, kite, nonagon, decagon, heptagon, trapezium  and octagon.

What can you find out for next week?

Pictures will be added soon.

Scottish Opera

On Friday we are performing Warriors, the Emperor’s Incredible Army to others. P5 s will be The Builders, P6 are the Soldiers and P7s are The Peasants. We will be performing alongside Scottish Opera singers. Roger came to work with us prior to the Easter holidays to improve our singing. We will be singing a variety of songs to tell the story about the emperor. The story is set in China 2000 years ago. Watch this space for further updates!

Angles – what do we know already?

We have heard the word angle within the word triangle.  We know that tri means three, so a triangle must have three angles.  We looked at triangles and we saw that they each have three straight sides and three corners.

Some P5s remembered that a right angle is when two perpendicular lines meet.  We used that knowledge to work out that an angle must be the distance between two lines.

We are now off to look for examples of angles in the class.  Check back later to see how we get on.
