Measuring with metres and centimetres

Today we went outside to measure.  We used trundle wheels, rulers and metre sticks.  We had to find two things to measure with each of these pieces of equipment.

here are some of our measurements

trundle wheel

-perimeter of playground 145 metres

– length of P3/4 playground – 37 metres

– distance from grass to fence -23 metres

-perimeter of square football area – 36 metres.

Metre Stick

-distance between two trees – 1m 50 cm

length of kerb 92cm

blue bench – 3metres long

height of bench 81cm

Rulers

bench leg 30cm

bin 60 cm high

brick 20cm

We used different items to measure different things because some this would take much longer to measure with a ruler or metre stick.  Some items are smaller than others.

  1. I enjoyed learning how to measure with a Metre stick, ruler and trundle wheel. I liked it when we took our learning outside instead of staying inside for all of work inside.

I found it hard trying to read the metre stick.

I found it easy to hear the clicking sound of the trundle wheel.

  2. These are really good measurements and very accurate!! It is great to be able to take this learning outside.

  3. I liked using different equipment to measure different things. Such as the playground whith a trundle wheel, the birck whith a ruler and the goal bar whith a metre stick.

  4. I liked using different equipment and I really enjoyed using the trundle wheels to measure the hall from fire door to fire door
